I hate using absolutes, but it's quite possible that this is the worst "tale" of the 58 I've written about thus far.  Pedestrians being hit by cars around here?  Seems to be a daily occurrence, with fatalities increasing.  Pedestrians hit by more than one vehicle?  Fairly rare, but it happens from time to time.
But a guy getting hit by FIVE vehicles?  This is one that might just keep you up at night...

Do you run your business...or does it run you?

Do you run your business...or does it run you?

It's a simple question, I suppose.  Or is it?  Part of this whole Realtorin' business is supposed to be the freedom to set your own schedule.  You can handle the clients you want to handle- with no boss telling you which ones you have to handle.

But how does the theory match up with reality?  Are you setting your schedule as you'd expected you would, or does you business do it for you?  Do you have the luxury of choosing … (10 comments)

The Singing Christmas Trees...an Orlando holiday tradition
If you're anything like me, your first thoughts upon reading this title might have been a simple "Trees don't sing".  While that's generally a good mindset to have (I mean, one doesn't stumble upon an Elm tree or a Pine tree belting out a tune every day), it's OK to engage in a bit of disbelief in this case.
Because here in Orlando, trees do sing.
Yes, we're only a few days away from this year's first performance of … (0 comments)

Pedestrian Tales From the Middle of the Road, #53

Well, we couldn't roll into a hoilday weekend without a bit of a pedestrian safety wake-up call, could we?  This story, courtesy of the Orlando Sentinel, reflects yet another example of how folks around here simply can't stay out of the street...
This is another sad story of how a dead pedestrian who's left an empty seat at tomorrow's Thanksgiving dinner table.
This is yet another failure of yours, Orange County Sheriff Jerry Demings and Orlando Police Chief Paul Rooney.  A … (10 comments)

Seminole County, FL watering restrictions

Seminole County, FL watering restrictions

Hard to believe we've already arrived at the end of Daylight Savings Time this weekend.  Around here, the end of Daylight Savings Time also signals the beginning of our stricter watering rules for the year.
Information follows, but the simplest explanation is that odd-numbered homes water on Saturdays and even-numbered ones on Sundays.  Tuesdays are set aside for non-residential properties.
Water's a resource that's becoming scarcer and scarcer- and folks around here take these watering rules seriously!  Violate these at your peril, for a neighbor might very well rat you out … (0 comments)

Worth another mention...Olympic Auto, 1161 W. State Road 436, Altamonte Springs, FL 32714 (407) 774-4504

I knew I'd written about Olympic Auto a while back, but I was a bit surprised when I looked back through my old posts and discovered that it was nearly 2 and 1/2 years ago that I wrote that last post.  I'd say a new Olympic Auto post is long overdue.

Rent isn't a four-letter word

Rent isn't a four-letter word

OK, technically it is- though it shouldn't be included among the other four-letter words many have come to despise.
Both renting and renters have surely taken their hits over the years.  Who hasn't heard of the ol' "Rent versus buy" analysis?  And how often do you hear that question answered with "rent"?
Chances are it's been a rare occurrence.  More often than not, owners are advised to sell rather than rent their homes out- while prospective buyer/renters are shown the many benefits of homeownership to the detriment of both … (8 comments)

Orlando Housing Market...Up, up, up!

The newest numbers are out, and things continue to look up, up, up for our Orlando housing market.  The link to this month's report from our Orlando Regional Realtor Association (ORRA) may be found by following this link:

http://www.orlandorealtors.org/news/142168/Orlando-median-home-price-increases-25-percent.htm

Median home price is up 25%- to the current $155,475 from last year's $124,900
Aside from the headlining median price increase, a few things stick out to me from a property management perspective:

- Total inventory is UP!  Despite prevailing ideas that we have an … (2 comments)

I'm glad my Sprint cell phone contract is up!

Funny thing happened as I dealt with Sprint earlier this evening.  Wait- no, it didn't.  Nothing that happened was funny, and nothing got resolved by what Clark Howard would refer to as Sprint's Customer No Service agents nor their Customer No Service supervisor.
After getting a few nagging text messages from Sprint asking me to confirm an address, I went out to the MySprint site and tried my best to navigate through the thing and figure out what the problem could possibly be.  I never did- as … (2 comments)

An opportunity to serve- delayed and realized

Being a thankful kind of person comes with both positives and negatives.  Being one of those types of folks, I’ve always been keenly aware of the positives.  Thankful folks are cognizant of how they received whatever they’re thankful for- and mindful to remember that others might not have as much.  Folks content and thankful for what they have tend to worry far less about what they lack- and far more about others who lack what they have.  Folks thankful for their accomplishments can revel … (4 comments)

Hmmm... I'm all for parking rules and everything, but my question here- in a Wacky Wednesday-turned-Wacky Thursday photo kind of way would be this:
If they don't want you to park in all of the parking spaces, why do they mark off all of the parking spaces?
No doubt the inquiring minds of thousands upon thousands of Wawa customers like myself would like to know...

Florida texting ban:  good law done wrong?

Florida texting ban:  a good law done wrong?

Shhhhh!  I'm going to let you in on a little secret:  Florida's ban on texting while driving goes into effect this Tuesday, October 1st.

As the following story indicates, Florida's commitment to what at one point seemed like a mighty fine idea can only be characterized as suspect at best.  Technically known is Florida's statutes as F.S. 316.05- the "Florida Ban on Texting While Driving Law", it seems this act of legislative greatness has lost its luster.

Robbing the post office?  That's just practicing...

Robbing the post office?  That's just practicing...

True story:  I got a money order in the mail, and made a trip to my local post office to cash it.  It's pictured above- Altamonte Springs, FL just outside of Orlando.
The clerk behind the counter took a quick look at the money order, and said "We don't have that much money".
I thought to myself "Yeah, I remember seeing that story just yesterday about how broke the postal service is".

Pedestrian Tales From the Middle of the Road, #52
Well, it's been a while since I posted one of these.  I'm sure I've missed a few in the time that's passed since my last posting (and I'm going to do my best to catch up), but what follows is much of what remains far too typical here:  pedestrian disobeys traffic laws and walks into the  street, vehicle comes along and tries to avoid pedestrian, they can't do it, pedestrian dies.
Hard to misunderstand or misconstrue what happened here- as the caption from the story's video says it all:  "Man walking in … (2 comments)

300,000 points... and another campaign

Hard to believe I've arrived at 300,000 points here on ActiveRain.  I say that it's hard to believe, but I guess it's like anything else: if you hang around long enough and put forth a decent amount of effort, good things will happen.
It's also hard to believe that another campaign season here in Orlando Realtorland is coming to a close in a couple of weeks.  I'm in the running for a seat on our association's Board of Directors- and with what some have called the "best slate of … (3 comments)

Why's this bed so lumpy?

Why's this bed so lumpy?

Yes, it's (sort of) Wordless Wednesday (or Whacked! Wednesday) already- so I'll offer up this shot from a showing yesterday.
When my prospects and I turned the corner to go into this Master bedroom, we had one of those awkward moments that comes along every so often on the showing trail...

"I'm not checking to see why that bed's lumpy"
"Well....I'm surely not checking to see why it's lumpy!"

Then the lump moved.  And moved a bit more....and the cat ran away.

Why's this bed so … (8 comments)
