Tuesday's Trip - Harpers Ferry, WV
We took a couple days and got away.  We didn't go far, we went to Harper's Ferry in West Virginia.  Harper's Ferry is only about an hour and half from our home in the Towson area so it's easily a day trip but we made it an overnight voyage.
Harpers Ferry is the site of one of the major battles during the Civil War and changed sides upwards of eight times through the War.  Because of it's location at the confluence of the Shenandoah and Potomac Rivers the area was very important to both the Union … (3 comments)

The War Came By Train - Tuesday Trip to the B & O Railroad Museum
My youngest son, Liam, is crazy for trains and has been since he was 2 years old and first saw "Thomas's Magic Railroad".  During spring break he wanted to go to the B & O Railroad Museum in Baltimore.  When he was younger we had a family membership to the museum and went 4 or 5 times a year.  The family membership is $100 a year and is partially tax deductible and gives you unlimited trips to both the Baltimore and Ellicott City museums.

Leakin Park in Baltimore hosts live steam trains every year.  The steam trains run from April through November on the second Sunday from 11:00 am to 3:00 pm.
It's a great day out for the family.  Bring a picnic lunch, blankets and spend the day.
Leakin Park is located off  WINDSOR MILL ROAD, two blocks east of FOREST PARK AVENUE.  Look for two, eagle-topped, stone gate posts and turn into the park. The Station canopy will be seen on your right. A free parking lot is on your left on the other side of the stone wall after you pass the station.

tuesday trip: Tuesday Trip - Fort McHenry, Baltimore - 01/06/09 09:58 PM
Fort McHenry's history started in 1776, prior to the War of 1812.  It was named after James McHenry, Secretary of War, 1796-1800.  The residents of Baltimore feared an attack from the British and built a fort for protection.  Originally, it was called Fort Whetstone, because of its location on Whetstone Point.  Today, Fort McHenry is open to the public and you can get there by water taxi from the Inner Harbor (or any of the ports of call for the water taxi) or along Fort Ave from Federal Hill.
Fort McHenry is a great place to go with the family for … (1 comments)
