western colorado real estate: This Doesn't Happen Everyday...But I Saw a Bear Today - 08/24/13 06:25 PM
This Doesn't Happen Everyday...But I Saw a Bear Today. You are certainly familiar with deer crossing signs and in Colorado you will even see elk and moose crossing signs, but you never see a bear crossing sign. Today I saw a bear cross the road.
I'm driving along and all of a sudden I see a bear's head pop up along the side of the road. Imagine my surprise. I had to pull over and see what this bear was going to do. I've seen several bears, but not one trying to cross a highway. The bears I've seen are … (15 comments)

western colorado real estate: Colorado Just Died and Went To Football Heaven - 03/19/12 05:15 PM
Colorado Just Died and Went To Football Heaven. It appears the rumors are true and there is just some paperwork to get through, but it looks like Peyton Manning will be playing for the Denver Broncos. What a day for Bronco's fans. The offense seems suited to a quarterback like Manning.
As a long time Bronco's Fan I just wish the best for the team, and this seems like a great move. I can't wait for next season and the new excitement this will bring.

western colorado real estate: New Storm Brings Increased Danger To The High Country (And A Nice Picture) - 02/28/12 05:40 PM
New Storm Brings Increased Danger To The High Country (And A Nice Picture). In most of the Western Mountain areas of Colorado up two new feet of heavy snow fell over the course of last night and today. This means the avalanche danger is at a high level. The strong winds are also adding to this problem.
This comes directly from the Colorado Avalanche Center....The avalanche danger is HIGH (Level 4) in all avalanche terrain today. Natural avalanches are likely and human-triggered are very likely. Some of these avalanches could be some of the largest we've seen this season. Back-country travel … (18 comments)

western colorado real estate: Now That's A Lot Of Bull - 02/25/12 02:31 PM
Now That's A Lot Of Bull. Hopefully I've got your attention, and now let's direct it to the High Wire Ranch in Hotchkiss, Colorado. It's so neat to just drive by this ranch and see all the elk and bison they raise. In the fall the elk are sporting their large racks (antlers) and it's really something to see.
On this particular day the elk were playing it cool away from the road. But the buffalo are also really something to see. Dave and Sue Whittlesey own High Wire Ranch and have been raising buffalo since 1981 and elk since 1987. All of the animals are grass … (26 comments)

western colorado real estate: To Deed Or NOT To Deed - 11/29/11 08:22 AM
To Deed Or NOT To Deed. Or maybe I should call this, "When Good Intentions Go Bad". In an effort to avoid probate, or make it easier for children to manage a house when a parent no longer can, some people have thought about adding their children to the deed. On the surface this may seem like a good idea, but there can be serious consequences.
The parents no longer have exclusive right to decide what they can do with the property. If the parents decide to sell the house, or refinance, and the child is a minor, that ownership interest must go through … (12 comments)

Yesterday me, my daughter and husband traveled to Colorado Springs to meet my mother in law for Thanksgiving. The weather was great and the travel was easy. Things have been difficult with the family, but we've found a way to make getting a mother and son and granddaughter together.
We started a tradition last year and it has really worked out.
Now we all get together at The Broadmoor in Colorado Springs and have four days together. It's a wonderful time, but now that my daughter is getting older and my mother in law is getting older, I think we need to get … (8 comments)

Sex, Drugs and A Horse...Oh My What Does It Take to Get Squatters Gone. Yes the squatters were there and had even moved in their horse and other livestock. What does it take to get them gone...Well everything mentioned above except for the sex part. I just threw that in there to get your attention.
Some of you read my blog about the horse that showed up at one of my listings. Well he's still there. The day after he appeared, it was apparent that someone was trying to move in, and this wasn't a case of an animal being left … (25 comments)

western colorado real estate: It's Like Something From A Stephen King Novel...Oh Wait It Is - 10/24/11 08:45 PM
It's like something from a Stephen King novel...Oh wait it is. The Stanley Hotel In Estes Park, Colorado is known as the hotel which influenced King when he wrote The Shining. He stayed at the hotel before he began this project, and supposedly had a close encounter with the undead.
Although the actual ghosts in this hotel aren't evil like the ones in King's story. The original owners, F.O. and Flora Stanley ( of Stanley Steamer engine fame ) are said to be permanent residents. Mr. Stanley likes to haunt the Billard room and bar and Mrs. Stanley likes to play the piano.

western colorado real estate: QR Codes Made Easy and How They Can Apply to You - 10/14/11 01:03 PM
Are QR codes the next big thing, or just a passing fad? I think they are here to stay. What is a QR code? Well QR stands for quick response code. This is a two dimensional code that can be scanned by your smart phone to get more information on a product or service. Bascially the QR Code will do what you program it to do. For real estate applications you could place a QR code on a brochure and have it link to your website for more pictures and information on that property.
The codes looks likes the image to … (15 comments)
