washington: Almost Fall’in in Camas, WA  - 09/14/14 10:42 AM
Impending Signs of Fall in Camas, WA

We’re enjoying our typical late summer, early fall weather in the Pacific Northwest. Cool mornings give way to warm and sunny afternoons, making for a very pleasant time of year. No wonder it’s our favorite time to get outside and enjoy nature.

In spite of the continued sunshine and seemingly never-ending tomato crop, the plants, shrubs, and trees are showing their late summer colors, and hinting of the changes ahead. Nature’s palette appears to soften before bursting forth in shades of red, orange, and gold.

washington: Harvest Moon over Camas, WA - 2014 - 09/10/14 10:54 AM
Harvest and Supermoon Treat for Camas Skywatchers in 2014

The last summer supermoon and harvest moon collided this year making for a couple of lovely moonlit nights in Camas.  A supermoon happens when a full moon occurs on the same day as the moon is closest to the earth's orbit.  A harvest moon is a full moon that rises the closest to the autumnal equinox. (September 22, 2015)

The harvest moon is special because the sky is darker now when compared to summer and also, its close proximity to the horizon. Photographers often capture the full moon with the silhouette of landmarks, or people, in the foreground and the horizon … (32 comments)

washington: Froggy Went a Courtin' in Camas, WA - 02/22/14 01:21 PM
Froggy went a Courtin’ in Camas WA
Pacific tree frogs are singing again in our Camas neighborhoods. It’s a sweet sound to this nature lover’s ears. The song, or call of the male tree frog, is a loud two-part ribbit designed to attract females. The chirping stimulates other males to join in, and often, the resulting chorus of their efforts can be heard quite far away.
Pacific Tree frogs, also known as Pacific chorus frogs, are native to Washington and have been the official state amphibian since 2007. Depending upon location, they move into breeding areas from about February to … (29 comments)

washington: Whoo's moving into Washington? Snowy Owls! - 11/16/12 08:24 AM
Whoo's moving into Washington - Snowy Owls!
The Evergreen state is a great place to call home - even the snowy owls are flying back to Washington. Several of the birds have been spotted recently, even in major urban areas, such as Seattle and Everett.
Apparently, the snowy owls visit us every three or four winters. However, last year, the number of birds spotted in the Pacific Northwest to New England, went sky high. Biologists are puzzled.
Some suspect a population boom, and thus, more competition for food has created the unusual migration. Still others, are concerned that it's … (19 comments)

Earth Day is today, Sunday, April 22, 2012.  There's so much to celebrate. It's a beautiful morning in Camas, Washington and my favorite spring flower,  Myosotis is taking center stage in a corner of the garden. It's a spectacular carpet of blue.

The United States tried it in 1918, but abandoned it after it was proved unpopular. During World War 11, the US observed DST year round from 1942 to 1945.
Finally, in 1966, Congress passed the Uniform Time Act. It mandates that all states observing DST move their … (26 comments)

washington: Short Sales - What it takes to "get er done." - Clark County, Washington - 01/25/12 03:21 PM
I got an offer on a Clark County short sale listing this week, it was too low. The seller's listened to my advice and rejected it. Not long after sending the rejection notice, the buyer's agent called me to argue about the decision. "Just submit it," he encouraged, "my buyer's willing to pay more, but let's just see what they (the bank) say." Sorry Mr. Buyer's Agent, the sellers do not have time to allow your buyer to play games with the bank. There's a foreclosure looming in the months ahead, and they want to submit offers that have a chance … (15 comments)
