Look for wines from warm regions, like Argentina and Chile. Often the cost of production is cheaper because winemakers aren’t battling disease, rot and weather as much as cool climate producers do. Therefore, there’s less crop loss and lower costs for production. Seek labels that have illegible gothic … (3 comments)

dianna mandzuk: What is Peaksaver® and what can it do for you? - 06/22/11 11:06 AM
When we have a heat wave of three or more days in a row air conditioners are running non-stop and electricity demand often reaches its peak during these times. These also tend to be the days when smog is an issue as well when it becomes more likely that more coal, oil and gas-fired plants will be used to meet the electricity demand. These plants, located in Ontario, release greenhouse gases and other harmful pollutants that add further to Ontario's air pollution and smog. That's why Peaksaver® was introduced; it plays a critical role by cycling down air conditioners and reducing … (1 comments)

dianna mandzuk: The Importance of Knowing Your Canadian Credit Score - 05/04/11 03:35 PM
Understanding Your Credit Report and Credit Score
One of the steps to home ownership for many people is applying for financing for the purchase of your home.  Your credit score will be a deciding factor in not only whether or not you qualify for a mortgage, but in some cases, what rate you are able to get on your mortgage loan.
There are a couple of websites in Canada that allow you to access a copy of your own credit report. It's an excellent habit to cultivate to check your own credit report on at least an annual basis to ensure … (0 comments)

dianna mandzuk: ENERGY CONSERVATION = SAVINGS FOR YOU & THE ENVIRONMENT! - 03/24/11 11:53 AM
Whenever you are able to save energy, you not only save money yourself, but you also reduce the demand for fossil fuels. Less demand for fossil fuels means lower emissions for carbon dioxide (CO2), the number one contributor to global warming.
You do not have to do without to achieve savings: there are energy efficient alternatives for almost every kind of appliance and light bulb you would ever need.
The average person produces approximately 40,000 pounds of CO2 emissions per year. Together, we use nearly a million dollars worth of energy every minute, night and day, 365 days a year!  By … (2 comments)

dianna mandzuk: Emergency Preparedness Kit - Every Home Should Have One! - 03/19/11 11:16 AM
In light of recent world events, particularly the earthquake in Japan, I'd like to pose the following question; in the event of a disaster - either natural or man-made - are you prepared?  If your hydro is going to be out for a lengthy period, do you have the supplies you need to keep warm? To eat?
Not all disasters are created equal, and while a leaking roof may present some immediate challenges, it's not on par with the aftermath of a wind storm or wide-spread power outage.  It pays to be prepared for any eventuality as much as possible.  Even if … (0 comments)
