Regular train service began from the Fairfield Metro Station on Monday, December 5.  According to the MTA website this is the first new main line station in Fairfield County on the New Haven Line in more than a century. 
 Amenities of the ADA-accessible station include:
A surface lot parking facility that will have approximately 1,400 spaces. At long last, the new train station which has been in the works for the past ten years is finally expected to begin service on Monday, December 5th. 
New stops on train lines have long been known to boost property values.  City planners have aptly named this THE TRAIN STATION EFFECT.  Studies have shown that a new train station can boost prices between 14-18% within a one mile radius of a new stop on a train line. This train line, Metro North, goes to Manhattan, making it particularly desirable.

Track repairs will cause a delay in the opening of the Fairfield Metro train station.  The new date for the opening is scheduled for December 1, 2011.  The opening had been scheduled for the end of this month until recently. 
There are still a few more hurdles for the completion of the train station including agreements between the state Department of Transportation and United Illuminating on easements and the placement of utilities.  The town of Fairfield is also waiting for a written agreement from the state for an additional $3 million in funds help with $7.5 million in cost overruns.  To … (1 comments)

The Town of Fairfield sponsored a survey  to determine the name of the new train station.  The results of the survey are in and can be summarized as follows:  More than 1,200 people participated in the three-week survey sponsored by First Selectman Kenneth Flatto's office.  Black Rock, or some variation, was the favorite of about 75 percent of the votes.
The ultimate decision for the name of the station -- scheduled to open by fall of 2011 - will be made by the state Department of Transportation Therefore, we think we need to start a letter writing campaign to Mr. Flatto and … (1 comments)

75% of online voters voted for "Black Rock" to be included in the name of Fairfield's third train station, according to results released by the first selectman's office.  This is a huge victory for our community as it increases awareness of our community and its accessibility to New York City.  The Department of Transportation still needs to approve the name change, which they had decided should be the Fairfield Metro Center. 
Many Fairfielders felt Fairfield Metro Center was confusing, because Fairfield's Center has it's own train station stop.  The other two stops in Fairfield are called Greens Farms and Southport.  It only makes … (3 comments)

Many of us have been calling the upcoming train station, the Black Rock Train Station, for years now, but the Town of Fairfield  and the State of Connecticut have decided to name the station the Fairfield Metro Station.  They have created a survey on the Fairfield town website to obtain input from the public.  The name of the train station is very important to those of us who live or own businesses in Black Rock as it promotes our community.

Latest Update 4/30/10:  An article in the Connecticut Post states that the construction of the Black Rock train station is moving forward.  $19.4 million has been bonded by the state, the developers are contributing $5.2 milliion, and the Town of Fairfield has committed $5 million.  This will cover the costs of creating a 1,500 space parking lot, access road, drainage plan, wetlands and shoreline remediation, site regrading, soil capping, utilities, and retaining walls.  This is great news for Black Rock!  The train station should be up and running next year.

At the Black Rock NRZ meeting on January 25, residents got a preview of the the plans for the Metro Center Rail Station that is now slated to be up and running in mid-2011.  Earlier media reports predicted that the station would be operational by the end of this summer based on earlier plans for a temporary parking lot.  It has since been decided to move forward with the permanent parking lot, so the time for completion has been moved back.
