gay rosen real estate: Robert Merrill - Former Tenor who sang at the Yankees Home Games .... - 01/10/11 12:03 PM
I live in the same town as the recently deceased Mr. Robert Merrill, famous Tenor who used to sing at the New York Yankees home games for many years, and who unfortunately passed away in 2004. His home was recently sold in 2010 for $1,375,000  (had to get that in!). Mr. Merrill was married to Roberta Peters, another famous opera singer, and New Rochelle was proud that they called this great city home.
With baseball around the corner, I have to recall a story which I thought was humorous. As a parent, and being an involved parent, I would always volunteer … (4 comments)

gay rosen real estate: The Assessor's Office - Assessing the Facts! - 01/04/11 06:21 PM
The tax rates were increased as of 1/1/2011, and I thought I would start by mentioning what they are. We obviously must have taxes to cover the city’s costs. The sewer tax (still 2010) is 12.161, the 2010-2011 school tax rate is 633.435, the 2010 county tax rate is 127.605, the 2010 city tax rate is 175.099 and the 2010-2011 Library tax rate is 14.557. Where the tax rates vary is dependent upon where you reside in New Rochelle. For instance, if your home is in the New Rochelle sewer district then the 2010 tax rate is 25.075, Mamaroneck Sewer district … (0 comments)

gay rosen real estate: Back by Popular Demand.... well - that is MY story! and UNDER $70,000 - 01/02/11 04:35 PM
A charming studio - just 450 square feet but utilized to it's fullest! In Westchester, where prices are higher than other states, to find a studio, with parking and a swimming pool (not in the apartment but the complex of course!) and priced at $69,000 is a great find! This particular studio is located on the second floor, has a parking space, there is a common laundry area, and storage, a barbecue is allowed outside the building, and it is all conveniently located to fine dining, shopping and transportation!

gay rosen real estate: Are these college courses or representative of our local High School? - 12/15/10 09:53 AM

I have done my share of traveling to the various colleges over the years,  and looking at the various program guides or course catalogs, and have been suitably impressed. I find myself being equally impressed with our local High School in New Rochelle. Some might comment on how large our high school is (approximately 3300 students), but because of its size, the faculty is able to offer such subjects as:
1) English 4 Honors (and of course English 2 Regents)
2) Journalism, College writing, Shakespeare, British literature
3) Mandarin (1 and 11)
4) French 5 and French AP
5) … (4 comments)

gay rosen real estate: New Residence Hall for Iona College - 12/08/10 04:58 PM

Hi: As a Realtor, I have had many calls from college students over the years seeking housing, as there simply hasn't been enough available at Iona. It has always been a challenge, and for a dynamic college, this has been a long time coming! It has just been announced that a new Residence Hall will be built on what is now known as Murphy Lot, located on Mayflower Avenue; a ten story, 393 bedroom facility which will be able to house 575 students. This will not affect any future enrollment, or any tax revenue for the city but rather offer a … (2 comments)

gay rosen real estate: Reflections on Thanksgiving - 11/25/10 08:33 AM
Being born in England, I never experienced Thanksgiving until I came to the United States. It is a yearly tradition that I look forward to and enjoy with family and friends.  However, it is being able to give that is the most rewarding. I once made a large turkey to take to a halfway house in nearby White Plains, another time taking food to someone in need at a local housing project. But I think the most memorable Thanksgiving was going to a Bowl Game with our local Youth Tackle League football team. Held every Thanksgiving weekend (the buses leave late on Thanksgiving … (8 comments)
