san marcos historical society: What's Cooking in San Macos - 08/17/09 06:57 PM
With contributions from our Kiwanis family, relatives, friends and chefs from all over, the Kiwanis Club of San Marcos has put together a GREAT cookbook.  This 240 page cookbook includes some recipes that, up until now, have never been written out.  These specific recipes have been passed down through the generations by way of hands on training in the kitchen.  There are also recipes from some of the founding families of San Marcos, including one very famous resident, Sophie Huchting (Mrs. Cubbison).  Our Kiwanis club worked very closely with the San Marcos Historical Society and have included many stories about historic San Marcos.

san marcos historical society: Recycle your used cell phones - 04/08/09 12:57 PM

Every year, Americans buy more than 100 million cell phones, yet fewer than 20% of old cell phones are recycled.  Discarded phones represent about 65,000 tons of electronic garbage every year.
Instead of leaving your old cell phone in your junk drawer or putting it in trash, which will cause it to end up in the landfill, PLEASE donate your old/used cell phones to the San Marcos Historical Society.  The San Marcos Historical Society will make sure that the old cells phones are recycled properly while at the same time raising a few dollars to help sustain the operation of … (2 comments)

san marcos historical society: What's cooking with the Kiwanis Club of San Marcos? - 03/02/09 04:38 PM
The Kiwanis Club of San Marcos is gathering recipes for our big fundraising event of the year.   We are looking for favorite family recipes to include in our historically themed cookbook.  This might include a recipe that has been handed down by family members for generations or a current family recipe that is a favorite.   Along with everyone's favorite family recipes there will be included short stories about the recipe and where it originated.  The recipes can be complex or very simple.  I located one from my great great grandmother for making pickles hand written in the late 1800s.
Since our club is located in San Marcos, we … (4 comments)
