I think it would be safe to say that unless I have been out of the country for New Years (which has happened 3 times that I can remember), I have started each New Year with Black Eyed Peas. It is a tradition in my mother's family going back many years.  My mom's first question every New Year when we call is, 'Have you had your Blacked Eyed Peas?'

traditions: May the Luck of the Irish Be With You! - 03/16/09 06:55 PM
St. Patrick's Day has always been very special in our family.  I'm a bit of a mutt, as many of us are, but have always been able to clearly identify my Irish heritage. It gets even a little fuzzier for my kids, but we celebrate none-the-less!  Of course, as we all know, being Irish is not really a requirement of celebrating the day.
