After declines yesterday, it has been a quiet morning ahead of tomorrow's Employment report. Weekly Jobless Claims dropped to 331K, which was very close to expectations. Fourth quarter Productivity rose to 3.2%, above the consensus of 2.5%. The December Trade Deficit was larger than expected. The European Central Bank (ECB) made no change in rates. The Dow is up 150 points. No more economic data will be released today. 
As a result of the above economic activity, pricing has opened 0.125 / 0.250 WORSE to the points/credits associated with each interest rate option.

A decline in stocks has lifted Mortgage Backed Securities this mornng after a great day yesterday. Today's economic data had little impact. December Core PCE Inflation increased 0.1% from November, matching the consensus, and it was just 1.2% higher than one year ago. Personal Income was flat, which was a little below the consensus.  Chicago PMI declined to 59.5, matching expectations. Consumer sentiment also came in higher than expected. Today is Ben Bernanke's last day as a member of the Fed. Janet Yellen will now take over as Fed Chair, and she is expected to maintain similar policies.

Today's mixed economic data provided little direction for investors this morning. December Housing Starts declined 10% from the 5 year high seen in November to an annual rate of 999K units (which was still above the consensus of 985K units). Building Permits fell short of expectations however. December Industrial Production matched the consensus with a small increase from November. Capacity Utilization increased to 79.2%, the highest level since May 2008. Overall Consumer Sentiment was a bit lower than forecasted.

Weekly jobless claims declined slightly to 326,000, which was also very close to expectations. Wow...big disparity today with the Employment report!  Against a consensus forecast of 200K jobs added, we only ended up adding 74K jobs in November. This was the smallest monthly increase in jobs since January, 2011. Given that several labor market indicators showed greater strength in December, some economists feel that bad weather was a major factor in the shortfall, as the construction sector was particularly weak.
