“In the future, more homes passed on to children will come with a bill attached – the balance due on these equity loans,” The New York Times reports.
Reverse mortgages allow home owners 62 and older to borrow money using their home’s equity as collateral, freeing them from monthly mortgage payments. However, interest and monthly … (1 comments)

real estate: Don't Return That Call!!! - 02/03/14 11:52 AM
Daily Real Estate News | Monday, February 03, 2014
Forbes warns consumers about a scam that involves calls from certain area codes, such as 473 and 809.
The scam works like this: A call comes through from an area code such as 473, but the phone only rings once and then disconnects. Some recipients may be curious enough to call back, in which case the caller’s robocaller system emits a groaning noise that makes it sound like the person on the other end is in distress, and then hangs up. The phone call recipient may be tempted to call back … (0 comments)

“Instead of being at the mercy of the market and waiting for buyers to make offers, the sellers are able to name the date of their sale and the format, and they don’t have … (2 comments)

real estate: Tax Benefits of Home Ownership - 02/22/10 11:12 AM
The tax deductions you're eligible to take for mortgage interest and property taxes greatly increase the financial benefits of homeownership. Here's how it works.
Assume:
$9,877 = Mortgage interest paid (a loan of $150,000 for 30 years, at 7 percent, using year-five interest)$2,700 = Property taxes (at 1.5 percent on $180,000 assessed value)______$12,577 = Total deduction
Then, multiply your total deduction by your tax rate.
For example, at a 28 percent tax rate: 12,577 x 0.28 = $3,521.56
$3,521.56 = Amount you have lowered your federal income tax (at 28 percent tax rate)
PLUS - 1ST TIME HOMEBUYER TAX CREDIT UP … (0 comments)

1. They don't ask enough questions of their lender and make sure they have a firm pre-approval for financing. Know what loan program you are approved for, how much your closing costs will be ( your lender will provide you will a "good faith" estimate for loan costs), approx. how long will it take to close the mortgage once you have an accepted offer on a home and what information and documents your lender needs from you and when.
