properties for sale in slidell louisiana: Remodeling Blues - 01/04/10 07:09 PM
I have been married for 25 years now and have built three different homes that we have lived in.  Recently we moved into an older home and have started remodeling the bathrooms, etc.  I think we have done a lot considering the short time we have been in the home.  My wife on the other hand thinks it should have been done yesterday.  I don't know if building is more stressful or remodeling a home.  I do know when you lived in an newer home your taste are kind of biased.  Old homes are beautiful they just need a little TLC.

properties for sale in slidell louisiana: Louisiana Distric 76 Town Hall Meeting with Kevin Pearson - 03/26/09 03:30 PM
Monday April 6, Kevin Pearson, the representative of District 76 in the Slidell Louisiana area will be conducting a town hall meeting at the Slidell Municipal Auditorium.  The time is from 6-8 p.m.  He is promoting his bill elevating. not raising the homestead exemption in Louisiana.  Under this bill the first $10,000 of every home in the state would be taxed and the next $75,000 will be exempt.  Anything over $85,000 will be taxable.
This would spread out the cost of taxes to everyone.  Everyone uses these services.  He intends to file the bill before the April 17 deadline.
I am of the opinion if everyone has to … (0 comments)

properties for sale in slidell louisiana: Liability Insurance for Investment Properties. - 03/08/09 08:06 AM
I received a certified letter from my insurance agent last week informing me that I didn't have any liability insurance on my rental property.  How could this be?  I have had this policy for two years.  I know I had it the first year but not now?  I admit I didn't read the policy very well upon renewal.  I am sure the mortgage company wouldn't be pleased.
After telling my story to fellow active rainer Frank Rubi he told me to check with my homeowners policy.  How nice.  For next to nothing I now have liability insurance once again.  If you … (6 comments)

properties for sale in slidell louisiana: St Tammany Property Taxes - 01/21/09 03:07 PM
I viewed my property taxes online this week and blew a gasket.  In these times when property values at best are holding steady my taxes went from pre-Katrina ($800) to over $2200.  I don't know how in the world some people will be able to come up with the extra cash.  This is a Republican dominated parish that is supposed to believe in low taxes.  I don't think it matter any more what party you belong to.
I wonder what my home is really worth when someone has to pay taxes, flood and homeowners insurance on top of the house note.  I … (0 comments)

properties for sale in slidell louisiana: Computer Thief Caught - 01/03/09 10:14 AM
How many laptop computer owners are aware of software that will phone in it's location if it comes up missing?  Well there is a software that will do this.  Have you heard of Lo-Jack for cars?  I knew of this but,I didn't know they made software for laptops.  Well they do.
Seems a 23 year old was arrested in Metairie Louisiana for possesion of stolen property, Saturdays Times Picayune reports.  The software is called Computrace Lojack for Laptops.  You can have it installed at purchase or order it online, etc.
So computer thieves beware, big brother may be watching.

properties for sale in slidell louisiana: Slidell Louisiana Weather - 12/18/08 05:00 PM
For the past three days I think I live in London.  The fog is as thick as pea soup.  I even had to cancel my fishing trip earlier in the week because we deemed it too dangerous to venture out.  Last Thursday it was freezing and snowing.  Over eight (8) inches of snow in the area.  That's a blizzard for us.  This week we are close to eighty (80).  No wonder my sinuses are going nuts.  I think we own the motto " don't like the weather wait a day".  This picture was taken at 5 P.M.

properties for sale in slidell louisiana: New Orleans Housing Market Forecast 2009 - 12/15/08 07:34 PM
Fortune magazine forecasts the New Orleans area will actually see an increase in property values next year.  The only other area forecast to improve was Allen-Mission, Texas.  These are the only two out of the top 100 markets in the country with positive forecasts.  California and Florida have plenty of more pain to go thru.  I am not familiar with Texas but I do know the New Orleans area well.  We never had those crazy run up in prices like the "boom" areas.  I never sold a house with more than one offer on it and for more than asking price. Of … (6 comments)

The New Orleans local MLS board extended their deadline for member dues this week.  Last Sunday was supposed to be the last day to avoid a late fee.  You know things must be bad.  They gave everyone a week extension.  I just paid mine today, sweet.  I hope nationwide others are being extended this break.

properties for sale in slidell louisiana: Holiday Hangover - 11/29/08 08:20 AM
That's what I have.  At least I am blaming it on this.  I just don't feel like doing anything except watching television and being lazy.  Any one else in this mood?  I hope I don't stay like this for the rest of the year.  Of course the way home sales are going I could.  I do have one commercial deal I hope to wrap up in the next two weeks.  This deal has been in the works since February thanks to permit hold ups and red tape.

properties for sale in slidell louisiana: Mortgage Rates - 11/25/08 01:36 PM
Mortgage rates have posted their biggest one day decline ever.  I sure hope this sticks.  This would be a big help to everyone involved in the real estate market.  I don't know if we would see an uptick in home prices but the sales should pick up some.  Happy Thanksgiving every one.

properties for sale in slidell louisiana: Fire Kills Father and Son - 11/24/08 02:32 PM
Yesterday in Covington Louisiana a father and son perished in a house fire.  There were no smoke detectors in the home.  Over 96 people have died in Louisiana this year from house fires.  The overwhelming majority of these also didn't have smoke detectors.  New building codes require the new homes to have smoke detectors wired into the house.  The older homes only will have battery operated ones.
My home in Slidell has five alone.  People if you live in an older home spend a little money and buy at least two smoke detectors for your loved ones.  I don't like reading … (0 comments)

properties for sale in slidell louisiana: Gift Cards Anyone - 11/18/08 02:07 PM
 From a friend of mine.
Heads up if you tend to give gift cards around the holidays, you need to be careful that the cards will be honored after the holidays. Stores that are planning to close after Christmas are still selling the cards through the holidays even though the cards will be worthless January 1. There is no law preventing them from doing this. On the contrary, it is referred to as 'Bankruptcy Planning'. Below is a partial list of stores that you need to be cautious about. Circuit City (filed Chapter 11) Ann Taylor- 117 stores nationwide closing Lane … (16 comments)

properties for sale in slidell louisiana: Pensacola Seafood - 11/17/08 03:39 PM
I was in Pensacola, Florida this weekend watching my daughters soccer team compete in the NCAA Tournament.  After their win Friday the coach was nice enough to let her go eat dinner with us.  We decided to eat seafood at a local restaurant in town.  This placed was packed, so i figured it was good.  Man was i disappointed.  The seafood was terrible by New Orleans standards.  The shrimp and fish were fried with so much cornmeal you thought you were eating cornbread.  I guess we are spoiled.
Anyone coming to New Orleans area contact me and I will give you some … (0 comments)

properties for sale in slidell louisiana: Slidell Flood Rates Reduced - 11/12/08 05:00 PM
Good news Slidell residents.  Flood insurance rates are going down.  Thanks to efforts by Slidell city government improving drainage in our area.  Our zone class is going down from a nine to an eight.  Ten being the worst.  This should result in a reduction of about ten percent a year.  I will take whatever I can get.

properties for sale in slidell louisiana: Help is On The Way - 11/11/08 05:35 PM
How many times have I heard that this past two months?  I don't have very much faith in FannieMae or FeddieMac.  I don't have much faith in the Government.  Seems to me everything they get involved in gets screwed up down the road.
I do however have faith in me.  I know the harder (translate more time) I work the better I will be.  The only one who holds us back in this industry is yourself.  Turn off the TV and get motivated.  I know things are quiet but many agents are making a killing still.
