kalispell: Flathead Valley Real Estate Update August 3, 2012 - 08/03/12 05:18 AM
It is has been getting busy here at Blue Sky Realty in Kalispell. In 3 days last week I:
1) listed 2 homes for sale
2) met with 2 out of state buyers and wrote an offer (accepted by the way) for one of them
3) Had many buyer leads on my web site
4) Had another seller ask me to meet with her about listing her home
5) Set up showings on my listings
Reminds me of the good old days, busy! Our local MLS put out a chart showing the inventory/sales for the last 3 years. Inventory is down and … (0 comments)

kalispell: Flathead Valley News and Notes July 13, 2012 - 07/06/12 07:45 AM
The yearly average visitor numbers in Glacier National Park are around 2 million. I think they all decided to make this the week they visited our valley! Now, keep in mind we really don't deal with traffic in this valley except for in the summer, but there were unbelievable backups going through Kalispell and to the major shopping area on Hwy 93 this week. I was not excited to be part of a record day for shoppers at Costco on July 3rd - and that was at 3pm! I have NEVER seen so many people in that store and it stands to reason since they set a … (1 comments)

kalispell: Flathead Valley News and Notes May 21, 2012 - 05/21/12 08:36 AM
Wow! Lots of Alberta plates with some B.C. plates in the valley this weekend. Glad it was a nice weekend for all the travelers from up north.
We had a nice breakfast Saturday morning at Split Rock Cafe in Kalispell, then home to do chores and yard work. Today, we set out to discover all the trail heads for the Whitefish Trail, http://whitefishlegacy.org/. We were scouting out if we could get to the various trail access points with our horse trailer. We started at the Lupfer trail head and ended up hiking to the lookout, 2.5 miles round trip. Why are lookouts always UP?? We … (0 comments)

Going to the Sun road plowing in Glacier National Park has started! After a record late opening last year, let's hope for a record early opening this year. Keep up on the plowing progress http://home.nps.gov/applications/glac/gttsroadplow/gttsroadplowstatus.cfm
There was valley snow yesterday morning after wonderful warm and sunny days last week. Springtime in Montana, going back and forth from winter to summer.
City of Kalispell has hired a new City Manager from S. Dakota. He will be the 9th City Manager since that position was formed.
I listed an incredible ranch recently.
10 acres, 2 horse barns, shop, guest house, run in sheds, huge … (0 comments)

kalispell: Flathead Valley News and Notes March 21, 2012 - 03/21/12 06:15 AM
What is going on in the Flathead Valley in the business arena?
It seems that the valley is becoming well known among the gun aficionados in the country. There are 2 manufactures operating on an ever growing scale. One company manufactures wood barrels for rifles and recently won national recognition, Montana Rifle Company. There is an article in today's Flathead Beacon paper about another gun maker in Kalispell that is moving and expanding, adding employees.
Nemo Arms manufactures a whole different kind of weapon; nemoarms.com. Local Bigfork resident Major General Paul E. Vallely retired, is one of the gentlemen at the helm. One of the goals of this … (0 comments)

kalispell: Flathead Valley Weekly Update: February 29, 2011 - 02/29/12 11:25 AM
The City of Kalispell has narrowed the search for a new City Manager down to 3 finalists. The city attorney is currently the iterim manager until the right candidate fills the spot.
A wolf was scene wandering through the northwest end of Kalispell on Sunday. It made the news, very unusual. The thinking is that it got lost and then was in the middle of civilization and had trouble getting back out of town with people following it around and taking videos.
Big Mountain (Whitefish Mountain Resort) piled up 22" of snow in 24hrs on Sunday. Powder hounds were in heaven. Monday the sun came out, lots … (0 comments)

kalispell: Flathead Valley Weekly Update: February 10, 2012 - 02/10/12 11:24 AM
As I write this blog, it is snowing big flakes outside my window. Our snow pack is about 52% of normal and the ski hill has half as much snow as a year ago - of course that was a record year. Snow is in the forecast for the next week so skiers rejoice!
There are a number of investors in the market looking at multi-family and commercial real estate. I had a commercial listing just close and showings on the duplex units I have listed. Job ads at Job Service and in the local paper are definitely on the rise. … (0 comments)

kalispell: Flathead Valley Weekly Update: January 7, 2012 - 01/07/12 08:57 AM
Kalispell's current City Manager took a position in another state. An attorney from Helena was set to be the interim but ran into some state pension problems. So, while the search continues for a new manager, the current city attorney may be filling in for a time. The new fire chief has been approved by the city council. Dave Dedman is a Kalispell native and has been filling in for the vacated post and is now the new fire chief.
Record high temps on Wednesday at 50 degrees was really strange. It felt like spring most of the week. Snow in the forecast though for the next … (0 comments)

kalispell: Flathead Valley Weekly Update: December 30, 2011 - 12/30/11 08:34 AM
Weather: for some reason this is the first thing that comes to mind this week. After many sunny and warm (for winter) days, it is snowing this morning. Still warm and may end up raining in the valley but the ski hills should benefit. It has been a slow start to skiing this year. Big Mtn received 7" the other night which led to avalanche control measures. This weekend should see the start to more stable snow fall and better conditions. Blacktail faces north and has had a better base thus far. Big winds and rain off and on the last … (0 comments)

kalispell: Flathead Valley Weekly Update: December 2, 2011 - 12/02/11 08:06 AM
Flathead Valley activities are ramping up quickly leading to Christmas:
Tonight, December 2 - Kalispell ArtWalk from 5-9pm
Shepherd's Hand Clinic in Whitefish has a benefit tonight at Christ Lutheran Church. Free to attend but donations accepted. This clinic has been in place for many years helping those without insurance. One of my personal favorite physicians, Jay Erickson, and his wife started this program and have donated untold hours to helping those in need of medical care in our valley. Shepherdshand.com. The benefit starts at 7pm.
I am once again singing the praises of our excellent medical care in the valley. … (0 comments)

kalispell: Flathead Valley Weekly Update: November 1, 2011 - 11/01/11 07:22 AM
November! Snow is on Big Mtn, some valley snow possible the end of the week. Unlike the NE part of the country, we had no snow in October in the Flathead Valley.
Kalispell restaurant update:
1) Applebees in front of Costco will be opening soon to add to the choices at the north end of Kalispell
2) Doug and Vonnie Day are changing their restaurant format over to more casual pub type of eatery on Main Street called Hops Restaurant and Grill. Always on the lookout for a great burger, I'll let you know how it is.,
3) We have had … (0 comments)

kalispell: Flathead Weekly Update: October 6, 2011 - 10/06/11 08:27 AM
The trees - Aspen and Birch - are changing colors. It is getting dark earlier and we had a heavy rain last night. Sometimes fall is a welcome relief from all the things to do in the Flathead Valley in the summer. It is okay to stay inside at night and relax, without packing the long daylight hours in the summer full of fun and necessary things to do.
Saturday and Sunday the 8-9th, the Kalispell Ski Club does their ski swap at the Flathead County Fairgrounds. Time to buy and sell used and new ski equipment and pick up that … (0 comments)

kalispell: Flathead Valley Weekly Update: September 30, 2011 - 09/30/11 11:39 AM
Wow, what incredible weather we had for the entire month! Helped make up for the rainy June. Today is the last day to get your ski pass for the Whitefish Mountain Resort at the early season discounted rate. Supposed to be another La Nina so mucho snow!
High school sports are in full fall season force. Flathead High and Glacier High are doing very well in both football and girl's volleyball.
Time to get the final harvest from the garden, still no hard frost which is unusual for the end of September.
City of Kalispell is working on a plan for … (1 comments)

kalispell: Flathead Valley Weekly Update: July 8, 2011 - 09/08/11 09:44 PM
Ah summertime in the Flathead Valley! Daily temps have been in the 80's. A nice summer thunder storm roared through last night and then the sun came back out. Haying has begun in the valley with an abundant crop due to the early season rains.
Going to the Sun road in Glacier National Park opens next Wed. A record late opening due to the record snow pack. I plan on taking a drive up to see all the snow that is still covering many of the trails.
Kalispell concerts at Depot Park have been going strong. Tuesday's concert saw the grass … (0 comments)

kalispell: Flathead Valley Weekly Update: August 27, 2011 - 09/08/11 09:43 PM
Some schools started this week but summer and tourist season is still in full swing. I have had 2 real estate sales close in the last week. One of my listings I sold myself to a woman from Texas closed last week and she is moving in today after a long drive. The closing this week was for the veterinarian at Alpine Vet. Hospital in Whitefish. Awesome young family and great addition to our valley. More and more out of state buyers are trickling into the valley. I have 2 more for sure coming in the next month. Traditionally, fall is … (0 comments)

kalispell: Flathead Valley Weekly Update: April 16, 2011 - 04/16/11 07:43 AM
Just like most parts of the country, the economy and slow down in construction is impacting the tax base and school levies. Last week it appeared Kalispell would lose 7 firefighters. I am happy to say that the union and the city worked hard together to re-structure man hours and it looks like this number of lost jobs is not going to happen. Kalispell Dist. 5 schools: the activity directors of both Flathead and Glacier High have gotten together and squeezed out another $100k in cuts to their budget.
The season of 5K runs has begun. The Summit Health Club is … (0 comments)

kalispell: Flathead Valley Weekly Update: April 8, 2011 - 04/08/11 04:02 PM
It is a sunny Friday in the Flathead. Whitefish Mountain Resort ends this awesome season on Sunday. The annual Pond Skim event is on Saturday. People dress up and use all kids of contraptions to get down to a pond on skis or whatever and try and skim across without sinking in the icy cold water. I was driving up today to get a few last runs in and saw something that gave me a chuckle. Between Kalispell and Whitefish a guy was riding a bike along Hwy 93 with a snow board strapped to his back. It was about 32 … (0 comments)

kalispell: Flathead Valley Weekly Update: March 31, 2011 - 03/31/11 04:26 PM
It is Spring Break week in the Flathead Valley. The weather is getting warmer but it is also rainy. Only a little snow left around where it was plowed into piles. Some parts of the valley see grass starting to green up. I noticed the Buffalo Hills Golf Course in Kalispell starting to turn that wonderful spring green.
City of Kalispell is negotiating with the fire fighters union. I hate to see such essential services such as this be a victim of budget cuts. Talk of privatizing ambulance service. Many young men and women do an awesome job for the city, … (0 comments)

kalispell: Flathead Valley Weekly Update: March 10, 2011 - 03/10/11 08:34 AM
After a little trip to relax and refresh, I am back and happy to announce it is still ski season! So much snow on Big Mountain this year. Kalispell has had only 49" which is below normal. You would never guess that though with so much still on the ground.
The Daily Interlake had articles this week about how the Flathead Valley benefits from our Canadian neighbors. With only 2 hrs between us and the border and the exchange rate being beneficial, Canadians continue to shop, ski, golf, use our medical facilities and purchase homes. Kalispell Regional Hospital has a concierge … (0 comments)
