whitefish: Flathead Valley July Heat and FUN! - 07/10/14 07:22 AM
The 4th of July was incredible. We had family in town so took the grandsons to the Kalispell parade, City Beach in Whitefish and did fireworks late on the 4th. We older people struggled to stay awake since it gets dark so late in NW Montana. I don't remember the last time we stayed up late enough for fireworks!
It has been in the high 80's to 90's the last week. Have fun outside in the morning before it gets too hot. I used to tell clients they don't really need ac because we cool off so much at night, now … (0 comments)

whitefish: Plowing Progress in Glacier National Park - AND Guitar Festival Update - 06/14/14 07:25 AM
https://www.flickr.com/photos/glaciernps/ Is the source for updated photos of the plowing on Going to the Sun Highway. Projected fully open on June 20th - always a guess depending on weather between now and then. SO, if you are flying or driving in before that date, plan on biking/walking on the highway from Avalanche Creek. Kind of a fun time with no vehicles allowed past then.

whitefish: Whitefish Mountain Resort Record Ending Year 2014 - 04/09/14 02:45 PM
The numbers are in, skier visits were up 7% for 2013/2014 ski season. Season passes accounted for about 1/2 of these visits. It was a tremendous year for snow and the increase of visitors was evident in the parking lots but not on the slopes. So much terrain and so many chairs, skiers and boarders can spread out and sometimes be skiing alone.
Starbucks has broken ground on their new store on the corner of the Kalispell Center Mall parking lot. Another choice for coffee downtown and best of all, a drive through. This is the second location in Kalispell with … (0 comments)

whitefish: Flathead Valley: Columbia Falls, Whitefish, Bigfork, Kalispell - 03/29/14 07:19 AM
I love the diversity in our valley:
Columbia Falls: still a timber town with Plum Creek, RBM lumber, also the gateway to Glacier National Park. Flathead River runs through it.
Whitefish: the home of Big Mountain (Whitefish Mountain Resort) for winter and summer fun, old west downtown, situated on Whitefish Lake with bike trails and the Whitefish River running through it. From ski-bums to high end 2nd or 3rd homes, much diversity. Home of Alpine Theater Project and the Whitefish Theater with 2 venues to perform in.
Bigfork: On Flathead Lake and you can boat to the town. Artist and restaurant … (0 comments)

whitefish: Yep, that's Whitefish Montana! - 03/26/14 12:54 PM
Click on the link below from Powder Magazine for a classic tale of what it is like to be in Whitefish Montana during Winter Carnival. I loved the part about the parade stopping so people in the parade could visit with friends spectating :) Gotta love small towns where you always see someone  you know.

whitefish: Top 5 "South of the Border" for Spring Skiing - 03/11/14 01:49 PM
Everyone in the Flathead Valley knows, we are a big draw for Canadian skiers. Canadians come down here year round for a variety of reasons. Last week we had dinner at the Tupelo Grill in Whitefish. We were surrounded by fun loving Canadians. They kept us alive financially during the recession and still are pumping money into our economy. Skiing on Saturday, there were friendly "north of the border" folks parked all around us while were getting our ski gear on.
This article from a Calgary web site, names Whitefish Resort the only south of the Canadian border place to ski … (0 comments)

whitefish: Whitefish Montana and National Georgraphic Travel Magazine - 03/04/14 03:04 PM
I was reading the latest magazine, when I discovered a column referring to online exclusive digital treasury for the riches of Montana. I googled it and this link leads you to what I found.
http://onassignment.nationalgeographic.com/2014/02/19/photo-walk-whitefish-montana/
In the meantime, after a few days of digging ourselves out of a lot of snow, it is warm and even raining a little. Sure to be a big mess in the next few days! There were 6 small avalanches on I-90 between St. Regis MT and the Idaho border closing the highway - a main way to get all goods trucked across the state lines. … (0 comments)

whitefish: It's February 2014 in the Flathead Valley - 02/02/14 07:47 AM
Last weekend we stopped at Montana Coffee Traders for an Americano and headed to Whitefish for the Skijoring World Championship. We had not attended this event for a few years and were amazed at how it has grown! 3000 spectators attended on Saturday to watch skiers and snowboarders being pulled by riders on horses around a jump course. Fun and sometimes frightening to watch! National Georgraphic Traveler included the Whitefish Carnival and the Skijoring competition in it's best winter trips list.
This horse went down, lost his rider, but still finished and got a time:

whitefish: Christmas Week in NW Montana - 12/30/13 12:57 PM
Well, our family flew in for a week stay and it was a busy one with 2-2 year old grandsons running - literally - around the house. Fun! The one grandson lives in WA so we don't see him too often but the boys have so much fun together. Different in every way. One loved to be in the snow - of course he lives here - the other wouldn't take a step in the snow without tears. One is the instigator, the other the follower. One talks like crazy, the other one picked up a lot of words during his … (0 comments)

whitefish: Get Your Skis on and Head to Whitefish MT - 12/11/13 09:23 AM
Headed up the ski hill yesterday. 12" of snow fell in Kalispell and a little less in Whitefish. By the time I got up there the powder was pretty tracked and it was still very cold. I know the people who were on the first chairs hit it just right. I'll be there next time! Lunch at Hell Roaring on the mountain, coffee on the way home, good day! Here is a view from the saloon's window during lunch, snow and more snow.

whitefish: December 7th is the Day! Ski Whitefish Montana! - 12/06/13 11:32 AM
Whitefish Mountain Resort is opening the entire ski hill for opening day tomorrow! We had a big dump on Monday and even Hellroaring basin will be open which we usually have to wait a few weeks for. So you can ski from top to bottom opening day. The downside is that we are in a record breaking cold spell, so coverup any exposed skin and put on the woolies!

whitefish: Whitefish Montana Makes CNN's List - 11/22/13 05:56 AM
Of World's most cozy winter destinations.
Big Mountain, Whitefish Mountain Resort, Montana, United States
One of the most popular spots at Whitefish Mountain Resort is the summit, which lies 7,000 feet (2,133 meters) above sea level. From here, the views of the jagged peaks of Glacier National Park are breathtaking.
But it's the snow-covered trees -- known locally as snow ghosts -- that really stand out.
When the weather's right, what's known as a cloud inversion can take place. The clouds below become locked within the valley and visitors on the summit can look down upon a sea of white.
"Winter … (1 comments)

whitefish: Eats in the Flathead and a Very Big Lake - 07/18/13 05:14 AM
Sunday we took a drive down the west side of Flathead Lake to West Shore State Park. What a gem! We were checking out which camp sites might be best for future camping trips. There is a great boat launch, picnic area on the lake and camp sites with views. Also, 2.5 miles of hiking trails. http://stateparks.mt.gov/west-shore/ This web site is great. Some sites can be reserved and there are many photos and descriptions of the camping spots.
This drive was followed by dinner at Tamarack Brewing Company in Lakeside. We got a table outside next to the creek and under the willows. … (0 comments)

whitefish: Flathead Valley Update: April 27, 2013 - 04/27/13 08:50 AM
Many choices of things to do this weekend.
Alpine Theater Project http://atpwhitefish.org/ is opening Les Miserables School Edition this weekend in Whitefish. Taking students from area schools and having them act in a well known play. We went to a school edition play a couple of years ago and were very impressed!

http://www.conradmansion.com/DeathByChocolate.html Conrad Mansion is a historical home in Kalispell. This fund raiser is great fun. A mystery play performed throughout the mansion with the guests participating.
I just signed up to volunteer at the Spartan Race which will take place overlooking Flathead Lake on May 11. http://www.spartanrace.com/ I have many crossfit friends signed … (0 comments)

whitefish: Snow Alert! - 02/24/13 05:50 AM
Big Mountain has received 2 FEET of snow in the last 2 days, wow! The sky is clear and the moon is out early this morning, should be a good ski day. Heading to church and then to get an offer signed, hopefully still sunny for skiing this afternoon.

Today's Deep Thoughts:

6:00am Since Friday we have received two feet of new snow!! We have now officially reached the settled-base century mark!
Over 100" settled base at the Summit! And the skiing has been unreal!
With over 200" of snowfall this season so far, … (1 comments)

whitefish: Flathead Valley Update: February 22, 2013 - 02/22/13 06:12 AM
Some snow has finally fallen this week on the Big Mountain in Whitefish. The valley still has the remnants of the USA and Canadian holiday weekend. I was surprised how many families on vacation were on the mountain yesterday when I was skiing. Like skiwhitefish.com said this week, "2 weeks of lines and 15 weeks of no lines". Christmas week and Presidents weekend week are the busy 2. It is all relative though. Compared to other areas, our lines are nothing.
High school basketball playoffs are picking up steam. We may go watch the Glacier High Wolfpack play Helena tonight. Always … (0 comments)

whitefish: Flathead Valley Update: February 8, 2013 - 02/08/13 10:11 AM
2 interesting business updates that just came out in the Daily Interlake newspaper. The old hospital building in Whitefish which had been bank owned after a previous buyer defaulted, has been sold to a firm planning on using the building for a 4 year college. We have Flathead Valley Community college in the valley that serves a wide population and some 4 year degrees are possible through that school. In fact FVCC has nearly completed a medical building for nursing students and surgical techs.
Depratu Ford and Volkswagen in Whitefish will be building a new Volkswagen dealership at the south end … (0 comments)

whitefish: Flathead Valley Update: January 27, 2013 - 01/27/13 06:49 AM
It is the beginning of the yearly Whitefish Carnival season. Yesterday, was the first day of skijoring a competition where a rider on horseback pulls a skier or snowboarder around a course with curves and jumps. Sometimes a little unnerving to watch but also fun! http://www.whitefishskijoring.com/schedule.php
In addition to listing and selling real estate, I am a food coach for genesistransformation.com. 4 years ago I totally changed how I ate. Increasing calories in the fueling stage with my coach, pulling out gluten, dairy, and processed food. I ended up losing 35 lbs and becoming fit and healthy. As a result, I went … (1 comments)

whitefish: Flathead Valley Real Estate Update December 20, 2012 - 12/20/12 06:36 AM
All righty then, I will NOT be skiing today. Had planned on it as the weather was supposed to be awesome, but there is now a winter weather advisory and the skiwhitefish.com site that sends me auto emails on ski reports, just said the wind is howling at the summit 20-30 mph, no thanks! We went up yesterday morning and stayed on Chair 2 which is finally open. Fast runs, no people, good snow. Stayed there as the summit still looked fogged in. From the valley in the afternoon, the mountain was clearly visible so the clouds had passed. Had peekaboo … (0 comments)
