karens perspective: Are You Hiring an Employee or an Independent Contractor? - 11/22/11 02:12 PM
Are You Hiring an Employee or an Independent Contractor?
And do you know the difference? The IRS does, and they’re checking your records.
Employee – Generally, you must withhold income taxes, withhold and pay Social Security and Medicare taxes, and pay unemployment tax on wages.
Independent contractor – You do not generally have to withhold or pay any taxes on payments.
These statements make hiring independent contractors sound like the way to go for small business, don’t they? So, what’s the catch if you do?
If you classify an employee as an independent contractor and the IRS deems they … (0 comments)

karens perspective: How Much Should You Spend on Marketing? - 09/06/11 12:11 PM

How Much Should You Spend on Marketing?

Anyone can open a business but, if you want customers, you’d better be marketing.
The million dollar questions are: how much should you be spending and what’s the most effective way to market?
How to market depends largely upon which audience you want to reach. The over 70 crowd may not be using the internet as much as you think and, if your target audience is 18-25, you’d better be on Twitter.
But for the majority in the middle, a “layered” approach is what we use. By “layered,” I mean that … (62 comments)

karens perspective: Goals - 08/25/11 02:42 PM

Goals As a follow-up to Focus on Results Rather than To-Dos, we’ll focus on goals, your results.
If you don’t have a target, you’ll never hit it. Think about and write out your goals. There’s power and momentum that happens in the act of writing. Written goals become materialized, even if just on paper, and your focus becomes clear and directed.
Goals must be measurable to keep you on track and on time. Once you have your vision, it’s easy to break the process into manageable steps.
Think about what you truly want for your life. Write your goals for … (3 comments)

karens perspective: Are You Able to Focus? - 08/23/11 01:50 PM
Are You Able to Focus?
I don’t know about you, but the older I get, the more ADD I feel. It recently occurred to me that I’ve probably not actually developed this affliction, so what is it?
By the way, how many things do you try to focus on at once?
After much frustration and ultimately contemplation, I realized, multiple focus doesn’t work. Like trying to get a camera to clearly detail someone standing near as well as the waterfall in the background. It can’t. The camera’s indicator wants to know “where do you want to focus?”
So, the good … (0 comments)

karens perspective: Real Estate Blog with Free Information, Tips and Resources - 01/31/10 05:15 PM
I have been investing in real estate full time for the past 5 years and love to share what I've learned and what I'm doing.
So, I started a real estate blog with free information, tips and resources!  The great thing about blogging is that you can reach so many people.  I also do coaching and mentoring but one-on-one is much more time consuming than reaching out through my blog.

Karen's Perspective, my real estate blog, was born out of a desire to share information and I share mostly about real estate as that's what I'm involved with day in and … (4 comments)
