luxury real estate marketing tips: Wordless Wednesday: Splendid Anthuriums - 04/16/14 07:15 AM

We have always loved these flowers.  At first glace they almost look fake!  They make great houseplants, and we have recently been told they may be poisonous to cats.  We have had white ones in both our Los Angeles and Napa homes, and our cats ignored them.
Happy Wednesday,

luxury real estate marketing tips: Tuesday Trivia: The Endearing Side of Contrast/Magnolia & Tomato - 04/15/14 06:51 AM

Yesterday, we were at Cost Plus to pick up a few items like 85% Divine Chocolate.  The planter in the lot has a single magnolia tree, and  it had fresh new mulch.  We looked closer and saw that also growing in that planter were several tomato plants.
Were they volunteers, or had someoe lovingly planted them on a commercial street? Whoever maintains that planter decided to leave them be, There is room for everyone to grow and thrive regardless of the circumstances.  Happy Tuesday!
Cheers, Ron and Alexandra

luxury real estate marketing tips: Saturday Smiles:The Color Purple at the Santa Barbara Farmers Market - 04/12/14 01:32 PM

The color purple was well represented at the Santa Barbara Farmers Market today!  There are so many varietions to this color, like the purple artichokes picture above.  They are definitely in the red spectrum of purple.

We have a delightful dry lavender vendor at the market.  She makes lavender oils and soap from her lavender crop. This purple is in between red and blue, and there are lavender plants that are deeper in color like the artichokes.

And then this lovely variety of campanula flower, which are delightful as edging in flower beds, or ground flowers.  Their color … (16 comments)

luxury real estate marketing tips: True Confessions: How & Why We Fell in Love with a Brand! Part 4 - 04/09/14 08:18 PM

A well-built brand consistently reflects what the brand stands for and the brand’s extraordinary promise of value. Nespresso has it all. And that is why we have identified Nespresso one of the 2014 LOL Brands of the year!
Nespresso knows its target market well: coffee aficionados, devotees, enthusiasts, fans, admirers and buffs. It appreciates their need for instant gratification, small indulgences and a hassle-free luxury lifestyle. This is exemplified in features such as a pre-heating time of just 15-20 seconds and Automatic Blend Recognition technology (bar codes on each capsule tell the machine which settings to use without user guesswork).

luxury real estate marketing tips: True Confession: How & Why We Fell in Love With a Brand! Part 2 - 04/08/14 10:53 AM

A couple of weeks ago when Ron was at the Apple Genius Bar in Santa Barbara, I chose to window shop.  The entrance to Sur La Table had this great presentation board (pictured above), and as I walked in one of the sales associates asked me if I would like a cup of coffee.
She opened a drawer full of jewel colored round capsules, and asked me to choose one.  Then she placed it into the machine, turned a knob, pressed a button, and a cup of coffee arrived in an instant.
What was amazing is that the … (25 comments)

luxury real estate marketing tips: Saturday Smiles: The Colors of the Santa Barbara Farmers Market! - 04/04/14 10:08 PM

It is another beautiful morning here, and the Santa Barbara Farmers Market offerings are just as beautiful.  The Romaine lettuce was picked this morning, and every leaf is crispy.  Cesar salad is on the menu this week.

Spring sweet onions are also a treat.  Some people pickle them, we like them sliced thinly in salads!

And we could not pass without taking a picture of these beautiful cauliflower varieties.  Each color has a distinct taste!
Wishing you lots of Saturday Smiles, Cheers!

luxury real estate marketing tips: Wordless Wednesday: April Showers for those May Flowers! - 04/02/14 10:09 AM

It has been very windy the last few days.  We have had to dress warmly and walk at a very fast pace on the beach.  In the shot below you can see the wind patterns in the sand.  We were the only ones on the beach.  Even the sea gulls had retreated somewhere else.

The wonderful part of this is that the wind blew in clouds, and we have been treated to rain at night.  Last night, it rained for several hours, and the winds are back again, bringing more clouds our way... April showers bring May Flowers!

luxury real estate marketing tips: Market Share: Creating the Elephant in the Highways of the Mind First! - 03/31/14 12:38 PM

Mind share precedes market share; that is the most powerful law of niche marketing.  There is tremendous leverage in this mighty real estate niche marketing law.  Therefore, capturing mindshare should be your priority, unless you absolutely have the need to justify your success with a real estate marketing strategy that involves heavy lifting.
Here is a real estate marketing branding case study of a friend of ours, Joe Petrowsky, president of Right Trac Financial Group, Inc., who we met through Active Rain.  This case study demonstrates the incredible leverage you can enjoy if you apply this powerful niche marketing … (29 comments)

luxury real estate marketing tips: Saturday Smiles Part 2: A Walk on the Beach - 03/29/14 09:45 PM

There is nothing like a walk on the beach to end a lovely day. Low tide was at 3:30 this afternoon, so we headed out for a long walk.  Easterners on vacation here for their Spring break were jumping in the water (50 degrees) in their bathing suits.  It made us shiver looking at them. We are happy they enjoyed our weather and ocean.

The birds pictured above show up during the winter and stay through spring.  Their plumage reminds me of a nun's summer habit.  The nuns at my school in Europe wore white in the spring and … (11 comments)

luxury real estate marketing tips: Saturday Smiles: Turning 4 Turnips at the Santa Barbara Farmers Market - 03/29/14 11:11 AM

It is another beautiful morning here in Santa Barbara County!  Turnips appeared on several tables. Not everyone loves them, but they are beautiful to look at.

One of our favorites, Thai Basil is back.  It is spicier than sweet basil with a licorice,  cinammon and mint flavor.

It is time to make plans for summer tomatoes, and all the heirloom varietals are represented here, started from organic heirloom seeds and planted in organic soil.
Wishing you lots of Saturday Smiles!

luxury real estate marketing tips: Friday Fun: A View Worth Stopping For in Santa Barbara! - 03/28/14 10:01 AM

One of the things we appreciate about Santa Barbara is that everywhere one wanders, there is greenery and color.  This picture is taken in the industrial section of Santa Barbara, where auto body shops, live in harmony with tile stores, computer repair shops, a seafood store, taquerias, etc.
We have been watching this wisteria located on the street behind Kanaloa (our seafood purveyor). Every year, we have seen it go through its cycle. We noticed the very first buds, and now it has fully bloomed.  We had to stop and take a moment to enjoy its perfume and beauty.  Happy Friday, and … (18 comments)

luxury real estate marketing tips: Is Your Brand Speaking The Language of Your Target Market? - 03/26/14 08:34 AM

As a luxury real estate marketing professional, selecting the right personal or company brand name is very important if being top of mind is your quest. Getting it right the first time can save you aggravation and expense down the road by understanding the mindset of your target market.

Recently, I (Alexandra, here) encountered a women’s shoe brand by the name of Me Too. The company is from So Ho New York and has been around for twenty years. It made me wonder who their target market was.

There is marketing term known as “belongers”, those who want … (14 comments)

luxury real estate marketing tips: Luxury Real Estate Brand Position: Energy Bar or Cricket Flour? - 03/25/14 10:37 AM

As many of you know if you read our posts, we are fans of Shark Tank.  We enjoy watching the potential investors analyze a business investment in order to discover its extraordinary promise of value and its potential to provided a healthy return on their investment.  Here is an example:
One of the candidates invented an organic energy bar using cricket flour for protein.  Reluctantly the investors tasted it and proclaimed it good, however, they were not willing to invest. Who needs another protein bar in the market regardless of how good the ingredients are?
As the owner of the … (16 comments)

luxury real estate marketing tips: Follow Up to FOMO Marketing & Pinot Noir: A Personal Perspective - 03/24/14 07:43 AM

This is a follow up to our recent post on FOMO Marketing. Recently, we visited a winery in our nearby central coast wine country. We tasted their Pinot Noir (“Limited Edition”), Merlot and Cabernet Sauvignon. Our favorite was their Limited Edition Pinot, which was absolutely outstanding and fairly priced.
But, we were told that we had to join their wine club to purchase it, as club members were re-ordering and they did not want to run out.  That tugged at our F.O.M.O (fear of missing out) heartstrings. But, we resisted joining the club, knowing that we would be obligated … (13 comments)

luxury real estate marketing tips: Speechless Sunday : Springtime and Lilacs! - 03/23/14 09:01 AM

Lilacs with their bewitching scent evokes spring like no other flower does.  It reminds me of my parents' home in Minnesota.  Their driveway was lined with lilac bushes (classified by botanists as small trees). Not long ago, botanists developed a lilac plant that thrives in Califormia.  Now, we have them growing in the colder regions of Santa Barbara County.
Happy Sunday, everyone!

luxury real estate marketing tips: Saturday Smiles: Spring's Offerings; Artichokes and Celery Root - 03/22/14 09:51 AM

Today at the Santa Barbara Farmers Market, celery root appeared.  It is also known as Celeriac, and is used in soups, mashed, and a salad.

Also, making a grand entrance are the giant long stemmed purple tinged artichokes. They are delicious and their hearts are creamy and yummy.

Their smaller cousins also made a show, and their taste is equally good. Wishing you lots of Saturday smiles!  Cheers, Ron & Alexandra

luxury real estate marketing tips: Wordless Wednesday: Gloriously Glad - 03/19/14 09:12 AM

Gladiolas remind me of my father (A).  Papa and I used to go to the house of the Gladiola/Tomato man (our name for him).  He sold bunches of glads that he raised in his gardens.  In the summer he sold tomatoes.  He was a man of few words, took your order and said thank you when you paid him.
Happy Wednesday,  Cheers, Ron & Alexandra
