oklahoma tourism: Oklahoma Wildflowers -- May 2010 - 06/08/10 07:56 PM
Oklahoma wildflowers from my trip to take pictures of trains in Davis, Oklahoma in May of 2010.

Great picture of a butterfly on a purple thistle flower.

Sad little yellow flower that looks like it had seen better days.  Lovely sunny yellow color, though.

One of my favorite flowers, I call this one a wine cup.

Cute dandelion with its sphere of seeds ready to take off in the wind.

Purple flowers with hereford cows in the background.

oklahoma tourism: Shattuck Windmill Museum & Park -- May 2010 - 06/08/10 04:24 PM
On the way back from Oklahoma last May I saw this neat windmill Museum.

When you visit the museum in northwest Oklahoma you will find 51 vintage windmills and one wind generator on a 4 acre site at the junction of Highways 283 and 15.

The windmills are examples of those that were typical from 1850 to 1950.

Wow, what great granite wall at the entrance to the Shattuck Windmill Musuem and Park.

It looks like the white one in the background has Christmas lights on it.  It must look spectacular at night.

oklahoma tourism: Train Trip to Davis, Oklahoma, May 2010-- Misc Pictures of Interest - 06/05/10 04:51 PM

This painted buffalo is next to the train depot (you can see it in the background).  The depot is also a museum of the town of Davis, OK.

I'm not quite sure what this is.  I'm guessing it has something to do with trains.  Maybe a gravel loader?  Do you know what it is?

This is the first CSX train engine I've taken a picture of.  Love the blue and yellow/gold colors in contrast to the orange and black BNSF engines.

***Trains in Oklahoma -- May 2010 -- Part 2***

Welcome to Wynoka, OK -- The biggest Sand Box in the Midwest  -- Wynoka is a popular dune buggy destination.   This adorable red brick depot has some great archeticural details, I love the wide arches to the right.

This unique train engine was just begging to be photographed.

I've never heard of the Hudson Bay Railway before.

Here is a little house near the station and the engine.  I noticed the caboose mailbox to the right.

Close up of the caboose mailbox.

***Trains in Oklahoma -- May 2010 -- Part 1***

These pictures were taken near Quinlan, Oklahoma in late May, 2010.  This picture was taken from a bridge that allowed me to get a couple of great pictures of multiple engines and some of the freight cars as well.

This train was stopped further down the tracks from the last shot, he was waiting for another train to pass before he could go.  The trains on this stretch of track had to share a single track because of the rail road construction going on.

Here are two of … (3 comments)

oklahoma tourism: Davis, OK Museum -- Part II - 05/18/10 01:01 AM
These pictures were taken on Sunday May 16th, 2010 at the Davis Museum.  To see part I of this blog, click here.  This is a picture of the train depot/museum at Davis Oklahoma.  It is on the main highway going through Davis right near the railroad tracks.

The museum is open from 10am to 4pm.  The suggested donation is $1.

The historic certificate is displayed proudly just near the front door of the musuem.

I took a picutre of this train near the musuem.  What a beautiful sunny day it was, perfect for taking pictures.

oklahoma tourism: Davis, OK Museum -- Part I - 05/17/10 12:41 AM

The Davis museum has lots of wonderful artifacts inside.  As you can see the hours are from 10am-4pm.

They have lovely period clothing such as this wedding dress and black cocktail dress.

And they also have some newspaper articles from 1861.

Here are some of the uniforms on display to salute the War Years.

Can you guess what this is?  It kind of looks like something from Star Trek, but look at the next picture to see what it is.

Its the old version of hot curlers.
I hope you have enjoyed this glimpse … (1 comments)
