SOLD - 727 S. Shore Rd, LaPointe WI - Listed by Madeline Island Realty

We're pretty proud of this sale.  We sold the waterfront home next door (723 South Shore Road) in December of 2013 and now we have completed the sale of 727 South Shore Road.

The South Shore Road area has been popular during the past six months, with another nearby waterfront cottage (917 South Shore Road) sold by Madeline Island Realty in November of 2013.

We're especially fond of this part of South Shore Road for several reasons.  Nestled between the Grant's Point - Capser Road area and … (0 comments)

capser road: The Islewood Road Neighborhood on Madeline Island - 02/16/13 11:27 AM

The Islewood Road Neighborhood on Madeline Island

Madeline Island's Islewood Road neighborhood is a charming little enclave of just eight waterfront lots on Lake Superior, located a few tenths of a mile northeast of the end of Capser Road/Grant's Point and adjacent to the northeast end of O'Brien Lane, on the southeast side of the Island.
The Islewood Road subdivision was created in the late 1980s and lots were marketed for sale in the early and mid-1990s.  We purchased lot four in 1995, after searching for a building site which would be suitable for a log home.  We wanted to be fairly … (3 comments)

capser road: Madeline Island Neighborhoods - 12/25/11 09:25 PM

Madeline Island Neighborhoods

Visitors to Madeline Island regularly ask us about neighborhoods on the Island.  Specifically, they want to know "where Nebraska Row is" or "how do I find Grant's Point"?

Here's a brief guide to some prominent Madeline Island neighborhoods:
Mission Hill includes the area between the Madeline Island Marina & Yacht Club and what is known as Coole Park, along Old Fort Road. Homes in the Mission Hill neighborhood don't often reach the market.  Often, these estate properties sell to family members and close friends.
Grant's Point is exactly where the name indicates on nautical charts.  It … (2 comments)

capser road: How to Classify Madeline Island Lakeshore Property by Bank Height and Shoreline Features - 11/27/11 07:26 PM
How to Classify Madeline Island Lakeshore Property by Bank Height and Shoreline Features

I've never seen anyone blog about this before, but I believe prospective Madeline Island buyers would find it valuable to be able to classify and differentiate between waterfront lots based on factors like bank height and beach type.
The vast majority of our Madeline Island real estate buyers are looking for either Lake Superior frontage, lake access or a water view. Most folks want to see the lake, to be able to walk the beach and wiggle their toes in the sand.  They want an affinity to the water.  That's all part of the cache … (0 comments)

capser road: The Road Less Traveled - Roads That Don't Show up on Madeline Island Maps - 11/13/10 11:31 PM
The mapping of roads and landmarks on Madeline Island definitely needs a facelift.
Thanks to the few maps we DO have available, most tourist visitors to Madeline Island are at least familiar with our most-traveled roads, such as Big Bay Road, North and South Shore Roads, Middle Road, Hagen Road and Benjamin Boulevard.
But what about the growing number of Island roads that do NOT appear on area maps?

Some roads are sometimes incorrectly spelled, such as Black's Shanty Road (often misnamed "Black Shanty Road")?  Others just don't show up at all on the maps published by the Madeline Island Ferry Line or on those … (3 comments)

capser road: Your Spelling Doesn't Have to be Perfect, But Wouldn't it be a Good Idea to Spell Your Listing's Street Address Correctly? - 08/11/10 03:39 AM
The issue of correct spelling and proper grammar has started many an argument on ActiveRain.
I'm not here to launch back into that debate.  But I'm always astounded when I see a street name misspelled by an agent (or broker) who should know enough to go look it up.
In our community, we have a few street names that are complicated.  "Equaysayway Lane" comes to mind.  Some tourists who come to Madeline Island occasionally transpose a couple of letters and get "Capser Road" wrong (misspelling it "Casper" probably has something to do with watching too many television cartoons as a child).  But there's not much excuse for … (10 comments)

capser road: Madeline Island's Historic Grant’s Point Holds A Significant Place in American History - 12/02/07 06:00 PM
Tourists and Madeline Island visitors know Grant's Point for its fine estate homes and small public beach.  Some of the Island's most prized homes occupy the Point, which is located at the southern end of Madeline Island, next to the town of LaPointe, the Madeline Island Marina and Indian Cemetery.  But it should also be noted that Grant's Point holds an important place in the history and growth of white settlements in North America.

The Ojibway named the Island "Moningwunakauing", meaning "home of the Golden-breasted woodpecker".  Pierre Le Sueur established the first French fort on the Island in 1693, about … (0 comments)
