real estate: Greater Lansing Real Estate Buyers and Seller's Seem to Be Getting Mixed Messages These Days About the Real Estate Market From Disaster to Recovery. - 08/06/10 03:56 PM
Greater Lansing Real Estate Buyers and Seller's seem to be getting mixed messages these days about the real estate market from disaster to recovery. An example sprang up yesterday as one of our leading news sources for real estate news, Inman News had two separate articles with headlines titled: Real Estate Market: Worse Than Expected? And the other titled, Another Record Week for Mortgage Rates.
Sometimes headlines are what confuse the buyers and sellers on market conditions because the headline might be all they read. Both of these articles are great and have some valuable information that would be a benefit to read.
My point is, the … (2 comments)

real estate: Four Grand Rapids REALTORS I Met at REBarCamp - Get To Know Them Agents! - 06/17/10 09:01 PM

Back in May, 2010 I had the opportunity and pleasure of participating in the Grand Rapids Association of REALTORS Real Estate Bar Camp. The concept for RE BarCamp came from a technology BarCamp event held in San Francisco. Wikipedia defines a barcamp as: an international network of user generated conferences — open, participatory workshop-events, whose content is provided by participants.
RE BarCamp is a BarCamp for Real Estate (R.E. BarCamp). What that means- the event is not structured like a typical planned conference. Every session is not planned out in advance. Nobody is paid to deliver a session. Anybody can deliver a … (1 comments)

real estate: Newspaper Ads vs. Internet Marketing -Who's Really the Boss - 11/26/09 07:23 PM
It's Thanksgiving night and I am finally getting around to look at this humongous newspaper that was hanging out of my paper-box this morning. Maybe you experienced the same reaction I did, by saying what a waste of paper. In doing some quick investigating, I came across this report by MORI Research, that has some interesting stats.
According to a new report from the MORI Research nearly two thirds (69%) of Americans make shopping plans based on newspaper ads.
Here are some stats from the research:
• 82% of consumers clip coupons, buy a product, visit a website or try a product … (5 comments)

real estate: REALTORS: What's Wrong With This Picture, Who's Responsible for YOUR Education - 10/11/09 07:01 PM
As I look at this chart from a recent survey taken by NAR that was sent to 47,000 Realtors, and received 1,189 completed surveys back, I am shocked, yet not surprised. This number is large enough for overall responses to be considered statistically valid. I see some odd responses that tell me things could be out of whack when it comes to where we learn about Technology for real estate. Look it over and tell me your thoughts. I have made 6 observations below the chart.

1. First and foremost is it disappointing that only 1189 Realtors responded, however apathy and lack of getting with the program could … (3 comments)

real estate: Buying a Home Can be an Emotional, Time-Consuming, and Complex Process - 10/04/09 05:56 PM

Buying a home can be an emotional, time-consuming, and complex process. There are a few things that you can do to help make the process go as smooth as possible:
1. Check your credit. Before you apply for a home loan, regardless of your credit, it’s a smart idea to obtain a copy of your credit report from the three major credit bureaus and review the information. If there are errors or things that need to be addressed, it’s easier to address them before you have found a house, than after you have found a house and are trying to close your loan.
