Tatzu Nishi: Discovering Christopher Columbus | Columbus Circle, New York City
A few weeks ago at Columbus Circle, I noticed that the monument to Christopher Columbus is shrouded in scaffolding. This has been built for a dual purpose -- beginning in November, it will be used so that conservators can clean and restore the 120-year-old monument. But until then, the area atop the scaffold has been transformed by artist Tatzu Nishi into a living room where you can see the Columbus statue up close and personal.
The installation runs through November 18. Admission is free, but timed tickets are required

new york city: Is NYC Rent Regulation Unconstitutional? Supreme Court May Soon Rule
- 03/11/12 04:23 PM
The Supreme court may soon decide if New York state and city rent regulation laws (rent control/ rent stabilization) are constitutional. An Upper West Side couple who own a Beaux-Arts brownstone at 32 West 76th Street between Central Park West and Columbus Avenue have been in federal court during the past few years attempting to overturn the rent regulations protecting their tenants. One of those tenants pays about $1,000 a month and has lived in the one-bedroom unit since 1976. While I support affordable housing for poor and middle class families there are many affordable housing programs in NYC besides

Disclosure of Square Footage Estimates to Potential Buyers
We all know that buyers of apartments and townhouses in New York City often look to the approximate square footage of a property as a measurement for a property’s value. Indeed, often one of the key factors for a buyer in their decision to purchase is a calculation of the cost or price-per-square foot of an apartment or townhouse.
It is important to keep in mind, however, that the approximate square footage of an apartment is often just that – an approximation. Different appraisers or professionals may use different methods or

Chanukah begins tonight Sunday December 21st at sundown. The celebration of Chanukah is about rededication, commemorating the Jewish people’s fight to worship as they choose. It’s about religious freedom.
The story of Chanukah takes place 2000 years ago. The Syrian-Greeks ruled the Jewish homeland and sent their army to the cities and villages and ordered the Jews to pray to the Greek gods, placing a statue of Zeus in the Jewish Temple in Jerusalem and burning Jewish holy books.
One day an old Jewish priest refused to pray to the Greek Gods as ordered by the soldiers and gathered supporters to
