speechless sunday: Speechless Sunday | NYC Hansom Cabs - 08/19/12 06:45 AM
Carriage Rides in Central Park!
The Hansom cab is a kind of horse-drawn carriage designed and patented in 1834 by Joseph Hansom.
It's a quintessential NYC tourist thing to do - to take a Hansom cab ride around Central Park.
The cabs line up around the south end of the park, across from the famous Plaza Hotel.

Animal rights activists are calling for an end to Hansom cab rides in NYC

Animal advocacy groups support a bill banning rides on horse-drawn carriages in New York City.
Should Hansom cabs stay in NYC? What do you think?

Photo shot a couple of years ago on West 72nd St. I've never seen that dog-walker again.

New York City is a vibrant destination for visitors and residents year-round - whether they're four-legged or two-legged. Not only are most condos and many co-ops dog friendly in Manhattan but there are dog friendly hotels, restaurants and department stores.

B'nai Jeshurun - 257 West 88th Street on the Upper West Side is the second oldest synogogue in Manhattan
While hundreds of people have been waiting to get married this morning at the Marriage Bureau on Worth Street, B'nai Jeshurun was at the forefront of the fight to make this a reality. Five years ago, congregants formed a Marriage Equality Hevra, a term meaning "community," to join the campaign for the passage of gay marriage as part of the synagogue's social justice initiative.

The synagogue has been administering same sex commitment ceremonies since 1991 but today New York State … (6 comments)

speechless sunday: Speechless Sunday: Happy Father's Day Dad - 06/19/11 11:29 AM
My father is 86 years old. When he was younger he was an award winning news photographer. He covered Presidents and the news of the day. Many of my childhood memories are captured in great photos by my Dad. I didn't always like posing until he got the perfect shot but in the long run it was worth it.
He gave me my first Brownie camera and then a Nikon. I never really liked the technical aspect of photography learning the F-stops and lighting and waiting for the film to be developed. Our garage was filled with dark room photo equipment. … (14 comments)

speechless sunday: Speechless Sunday: West End Avenue Historic District - Upper West Side - 09/19/10 09:58 AM

WEPS (West End Preservation Society) announced a newly proposed area designation as defined by the Landmarks Preservation Commission on September 15, 2010. WEPA has been trying for years to designate West End Avenue a historic landmark district. Through efforts of saving landmark buildings from the wrecking ball and campaigning for a West End Avenue historic district an even larger area is being proposed and considered.
This district is larger than previous proposals. Due to the enormity of the area proposed, a total of 790 buildings, the LPC will divide the district and the hearings into 3 geographical areas, extending the … (8 comments)

speechless sunday: Speechless Sunday: Live Who You Are - 09/12/10 08:50 AM
It's where you live.... and it's who you are. Live who you are

It's never just a house or an apartment. It's more than a zip code more than a skylight. More than a hard wood floor and pre-war details. When it's right, a home is not just the physical space where you reside, it's where you come to life. It's the first, best expression of who you are as an individual, as a couple, as a family.
It's where you live.... and it's who you are. Live who you are.
