realtor in richmond va: Johnstown, Penn. Red Cross - 05/31/09 10:42 AM
A few days ago, I mentioned here about the founding of the American Red Cross, and one of the first emergencies they responded to as a group.  May 31st, 1889 was the day an earthen dam broke about 14 miles up river from the Johnstown, Pennsylvania.  Nearly 5 billion gallons of water rushed down the river valley into the town.  Almost everything in its path was destroyed, and over 2200 people lost their lives.  The victims had very little success in recovering financially from the dam owners, but it was one of the first major cases that led to liability for … (4 comments)

realtor in richmond va: This is what baseball is all about. Today in History. - 05/15/09 07:30 PM
May 15, 1941 begins one of the longest lasting, and perhaps one of the hardest to surpass records in baseball history.  That was the 1st of the 56 consecutive games where famed all-star Joe DiMaggio achieved at least one base hit.  I think I am correct in saying that a few hitters have had successful streaks of games with at least one hit that lasted for 35 games or so since then, but no one has really threatened to match that record set long ago by "Jolting" Joe DiMaggio (that is one cool nickname).  To quote Paul Simon and Art Garfunkel, … (5 comments)

On May 14, 1607 Captains John Smith and Christopher Newport and their three boats landed at Jamestown, Virginia and established the first permanent English settlement in the New World.  The voyage started in December 1606.  The "Susan Constant", the "Godspeed" and the "Discovery" carried a total of 105 passengers.  Replicas of the ships, the fort, and the buildings erected can be visited there.

realtor in richmond va: To All Tennis Fans.... Imagine Winning this Many Times In A Row... Amazing - 05/12/09 10:26 PM
On May 12, 1979 an amazing tennis winning streak comes to an end.  One of the legends in woman's tennis, Chris Evert finally lost a clay court match after winning 125 in a row.  I'm not sure I could beat my grandmother that many times without losing at least once!

realtor in richmond va: 3 Months and I Finally Got All Of The Paperwork! These Short Sales Can Take A While, But If You Hang In There...You Might Get Them Closed! - 05/06/09 04:14 PM

Great news on a short sale!  After 3 months, I finally got the ratified contract, the lead base paint disclosure and the property disclosure statement.  3 months!  It is amazing how long some of these things can drag out.  The only thing we can do is let our clients know how long they can take and if they want to hang in there, work as hard as we can and always keep them posted.  This one is finally going through and I am happy that my clients are going to get the home they wanted.

realtor in richmond va: Pass It On! Better Safe Than Sorry! Get Your Yard Treated Or This Monster Could Get You! Its That Time Of Year And They Are Coming Out Full Force! - 04/25/09 09:13 PM
Just wanted to remind everyone to treat for the insects this time of year.  There could be some very unwelcome guests in your yard like this one that I found in mine.  There might also be some guests that you can't see...TERMITES!  It's always a good idea to get on a yearly plan with a good termite company to avoid your home getting destroyed.  Termites are everywhere.  I have seen them destroy a home to the point where the home could not be saved, and the worst part about it is that you may never know this is going on.  They … (13 comments)

Thoughtful Thursday!  It Seems That The Market Is Picking Up In Full Force This Spring!
Things here are really kicking off with a bang.  Get out there and show your clients how hard you work and tell them that you would love to represent their families and friends as well.  I know a lot of you use Brian Buffini's products and I do as well.  He preaches the power of the referral and it really works.  Don't sit back and wait for your past clients to tell you about a friend or relative that needs help, ask then once a month … (7 comments)

Competing Offers In This Market.  Got To Love It!  Its Easy If You Price It Right!
I listed a wonderful home for some of my "A" clients this past Saturday and ratified the contract today.  Two offers came in on the home and the bidding war begun.  Of course, we went with the highest and best.  It just goes to show you that if you have a great home, great sellers, and a great price, your client can usually get more than they thought.  I wish you all the best and hope you have a great Spring.

Radon Gas!  Very Dangerous and Underrated!  Please Call Your Local Radon Expert and Learn More About It.  Just Look At The Name, RADon-RADiation.
I went to meet a radon specialist at a home that one of my clients has under contract this morning.  Most of my clients choose not to do a radon inspection (I am guilty of this also. I have never had one done on my home).  The inspector was telling me that back when Reagan was the president, he ordered a mandate to HUD to include a radon inspection with every home.  Why do you think he did … (5 comments)

realtor in richmond va: Owner/Agents, You Should Know How Important It Is To Let Agents Show Your Home! What Is Wrong With You? - 04/09/09 09:17 PM
I can understand if your daughter's wedding is in the backyard or your son's birthday party is happening at the same time that I am trying to show your house, in that case, I will schedule another showing.  How on earth is an owner/agent going to tell me this because he will not be home and can't put his dog up (not out of town, just at work in town)?  I was told this today when I tried to schedule a showing for tomorrow afternoon.  To all the sellers out there that don't understand how important it is to give easy … (9 comments)

realtor in richmond va: As Realtors, Could It Take 18 Years To Reach Our Goal? - 04/06/09 10:22 PM
I hope it does not take 18 years to reach my goal.  I can see why it took them that long though.
April 6th, 1909 one hundred years ago today, the North Pole was reached for the first time by Robert Peary and Matthew Henson.  The task was not an easy one.  The explorers and their team of men and dogs made practice excursions twice, to practice their methods and skills for dealing with the harsh conditions and sometime -50F temperatures.  It was an 18 year long endeavor from the days of organizing the team, until they actually arrived at the … (13 comments)

April 5th, 1896 was the opening day for the resurgence of the Olympic Games.  There were not as many different competitions as there are in today's games.  The events then were Athletics (we call Track and Field now), Cycling, Fencing, Gymnastics, Shooting, Tennis, Weightlifting, Swimming and Wrestling.  Only 14 countries participated in those games.

Disclosure Law and Agency Law!  You Better Follow Them!
Attention all Realtors.  Just a reminder that you better play by the rules and remember that there are serious laws to protect the public and other professionals that work in the correct way.  I know that most of us are very serious about the way we conduct business and protect our clients interests to the fullest, but unfortunately, there are some agents out here that don't!  There is no need to be greedy and crooked.  If you are a good agent and take great care of your clients, you will do great … (7 comments)

March 31st, 1918 is the day that daylight savings time was first used in the United States.  I guess there are good and bad arguments for it.  I told my dad once that it was part of the energy policy for the country.  He replied that it was the entire energy policy for the country.

realtor in richmond va: A Lot Happened Today! Read If You Would Like! If You Don't Care, Keep It To Yourself! - 03/28/09 08:48 PM
Sorry, I could not find a single trivia item associated with March 28th.  I did however find several!  Today, in 1866 the first motorized ambulance goes into service.  In 1881, the Greatest Show on Earth is formed by P T Barnum and James Bailey.  In 1885, the Salvation Army is officially organized.  In 1891, the first world wide weight lifting competition is held.  I guess it was a popular day for "first".
