I am so honored to have been chosen as the 2010 Distinct Style Awards Winner for "Best Home Staging Design".

Last Saturday night the first annual Distinct Style Awards, introduced by the Interior Design Society of Portland, honored winners in six design categories. Open to all interior designers and home staging professionals working in the Portland metro area, 124 entries were received and judged by a panel from the San Francisco Bay Area Chapter of the Interior Design Society. It was exciting to win an award and also wonderful to see my colleagues winning awards for their fabulous residential interior design … (18 comments)

home staging portland: Decorating With Art: November Artist of the Month - 11/24/09 01:36 PM
I wrote this post for my Interior Design blog, and it was meant to inspire my clients to collect art to live with. But in the staging world, we are always looking for art that will appeal to the broadest possible audience. Even though buying original art is pretty much out of the question in a staging budget, I thought my fellow stagers would enjoy seeing these artists' work. In general I select artists whose work is rich in color and uplifting in feel. So maybe these will inspire you to select some great pieces of art for your own home, … (3 comments)

home staging portland: The Warmth of Cool: Portland Interior Designer & Home Stager Shares Tips to Add "Visual Warmth" - 10/10/09 05:44 PM

Although I am looking at a bright blue, sunny sky as I write this … I am eyeing the rapidly rising pile of leaves on my deck that tell me gray skies and cooler weather are coming up fast. Brrrrrr! Soon we will be looking for ways to be warmer. Lighting the fireplace is the first thing that pops into my mind, and I suppose I could rake those leaves to warm myself up. But there are plenty of easy ways to turn up the heat without ….. well ……… actually turning up the heat! Adding elements to your … (6 comments)

home staging portland: Home Staging in Portland Oregon's Pearl District & South Waterfront. - 07/30/09 12:24 PM
My favorite work is Home Staging in Portland Oregon's Pearl District & South Waterfront. I love these condos and lofts for their floor to ceiling windows and open floor plans. If you saw my post about "Little Boxes on the Hillside", then you already know that one of the challenges to selling these lofts and condos is making them stand out from their competition.
When you are ready to list your loft or condo in the Pearl District or South Waterfront, look at the other listings already in your building.
Are they vacant or occupied? Are they re-sales or still new? … (6 comments)

home staging portland: Little Boxes on the Hillside, Little Boxes Made of Ticky Tacky, Little Boxes, Little Boxes, Little Boxes Just the Same - 07/29/09 11:59 PM
So, what does Pete Seger's song, Little Boxes have to do with Home Staging? Well, condos are essentially ... um, well ... little boxes. They are awfully darn similar. One door on a central hall, opens into the kitchen-dining-living area and has windows on the other end. Most of them are all white, with wood floors or beige carpet ... maybe gray concrete. If you are selling a condo, your competition is all pretty much the same and there are probably several others for sale in your own building that are exactly the same. And whether you are in the lovely … (2 comments)

home staging portland: Defining Space, Not Dividing Space - Home Staging & Interior Design Tips for Lofts / Open Plan Homes -Part #1 - 03/01/09 12:46 PM
Lofts, lofts LOFTS! If you know me, you know I love those wonderful urban spaces, with their feeling of spaciousness and unique architectural interest. They have become popular with people who are looking for creative, open, multi purpose spaces. However, they do have their special challenges, and require the ultimate in creative thinking. Concrete floors/walls/ceilings look cool but feel colder and bounce sound around --- no walls can mean no privacy with neighboring high-rise building's views looking straight into your entire home --- windows all on one end are common --- little to zero storage --- these are just some of … (31 comments)
