copper harbor: Upper Peninsula Thimbleberries, Wild Blueberries, and Cherries Almost Ready - 07/12/07 12:05 AM

As of July 9, 2007 the Thimbleberries were just starting to turn colorin Copper Harbor. Raspberries were also being picked along M-26 in several locations away from the lake.
Choke, Sand, and Black Cherries were in various stages of ripeness. Lack of rain may affect the quality and size of these fruits in some areas. Most wild cherries are small in size and best suited to making jams, jellies, syrups, or wine. Sorry, it was very windy and photos did not turn out.
