habits: Spreading out your blog posts - 03/22/08 08:02 PM
Have you setup google alerts for your name? for the topics you frequently blog about? You should.
I've heard that google and the other search engines respond in kind - that is, if you post frequently, they check your site frequently. I wonder if they only pick up the latest post ....
When I post daily, I get a google alert almost every day. Sometimes it comes in 20 minutes. If I wait and post several at once rather than spreading them out, typically I'll still get one or possible two google alerts a day - but not one for every post that … (9 comments)

habits: New Keyboard - the B's a problem - 05/20/07 08:29 PM
Today I went to Office Depot and bought a new keyboard for my home computer - one that I'd been wondering about for a long time - Microsoft's Natural Ergonomic Keyboard 4000.  Cost $59.  It's curved and sloped and most prominent of all - the two sides of the keyboard are split.
No trouble installing it - ran the CD, rebooted, plugged the keyboard into a USB slot, and I was ready to go - it was even extra simple to put in my favorites - so I can now get to ActiveRain just by pushing a button.  Easy to adapt to … (8 comments)

It's always interesting to hear people's comments when they ask What are you Doing? Blogging. or Why do you have to leave so early? I need to blog. Most people ask What as well as Why. And after the simple What, you have to answer Why. What's the point of blogging, they want to know.
Once they "get it", they get excited.
Once I "got it", I was excited, too.  Now my day is incomplete if I haven't done at least one blog.

Hold up your left hand, fingers spread. If you're lucky, you have five fingers.  Write 5 personal notes today. E-mails don't count. Typed letters don't count. Personal, handwritten notes. Yes, it would be nice if you had perfect (or even legible) handwriting, and it your grammar and vocabulary were perfect, but waiting for perfection won't get anything done. Write those notes! Write to thank someone, write to say you're thinking of someone, write to someone who went beyond the ordinary.
