chandler: Arizona High School Football Playoffs - 12/05/09 12:52 AM
After my sons first season of tackle football ended Thanksgiving weekend, I thought it would be a great experience for him to watch a high school football playoff game.  Tonight, we went to the state 5A Division 1 semi-final game between the Hamilton Huskies and the Chandler Wolves.  Boy was I surprised!  First of all, we got there just before the game started, because we had to park almost a mile away in a strip mall.  When we finally got to the field, there was absolutely no seating available on either side, Hamilton or Chandler.  There must have been over 6,000 people … (2 comments)

chandler: Chandler's Price Corridor has excellent shopping - Part I - 08/05/09 01:57 AM
Price Corridor has some spectacular shopping.  Back when we first moved to Arizona in 1996, there was no Price Corridor, no price freeway in Chandler, and no shopping mall in Chandler.  Now the city of Chandler has the Chandler Fashion Center.  A regional shopping center that is the second largest mall in the Phoenix metropolitan area.
Chandler Fashion Center opened October 19, 2001 with over 180 stores and five anchors, including Arizona's second Nordstrom.  Being from Portland, Oregon, Nordstrom was a place we all loved to shop, and we even had a close relative that worked at Nordstrom.  Nordstrom was something … (0 comments)

chandler: Housing Market improves in East Valley - 09/10/08 05:44 PM
Good news for those of us living in the Southeast Valley of the Phoenix Metropolitan area of Arizona.  July and August showed some increase in home sales, and a more stable median sales price than other areas of the Valley such as Maricopa and Queen Creek.  At the same time, foreclosures also showed a slight increase, but are tapering off from the larger increases from previous months.  Here is a breakdown of foreclosures vs. traditional sales, and the median prices of each in several East Valley Cities.  The source for the statistics is from several articles in the Arizona Republic

chandler: Kyrene School District, still one of best in Arizona - 08/03/08 03:35 PM
School starts this Monday, August 4th, for those of us that are within the Kyrene School District.  Once again, this school district is receiving rave reviews for it's highly regarded educational reputation, parent involvement, support programs, and impressive technology.
Kyrene's commitment for using technology to maximize student achievement was rewarded in 2006 when the district was chosen as one of three nationwide to receive the prestigious Award for Innovative Technology by the National School Boards Association.  The Kyrene School District developed a comprehensive web-based system for administrators to collect student demographic and assessment data, generate reports on student performance on district … (3 comments)

chandler: East Valley Foreclosures and why they are increasing - 07/28/08 06:24 PM
Real estate experts are saying investors and speculators started the foreclosure crisis, but it has now spread to the average homeowner according to the Chandler Republic article dated July 23, 2008.
For the month of June, 40% of Mesa, 27% of Chandler, and 20% of Tempe recorded home sales were foreclosures.  It is estimated that three-quarters of all homes being purchased are foreclosures.  This is mainly due to their lower price compared to resale and new homes, and buyers looking for good deals because they know they are out there.

chandler: Chandler Arizona Ranked in latest "Best Places to Live" - 07/21/08 04:10 PM
Chandler Arizona was recently ranked as number 30 on Money Magazine's "Best Places To Live" list.  Being a Chandler resident for the past 12 years, I am very proud that our city has reached that designation.  The study used education, crime, weather, housing, job growth, and quality of life as their determining factors.  Some of the great things I have discovered about Chandler are as follows:
EDUCATION:
Chandler/Gilbert Community College - CJCC has been named for the second year in a row to the U.S. President's Higher Education Community Service Honor Roll. Only 68 community colleges received this reward, out of … (3 comments)
