things to do in raleigh: Ever heard of an orchid babysitting service? - 04/28/12 08:56 AM

The Orchid Trail
I've been the proud owner of over 40+ orchids for over 10 years.  Because I'm always busy with real estate I rely on an orchid grower to "babysit" my orchids at The  Orchid Trail in Morrisville.  Paul and owner John Stanton have taken care of my blooming babies.  When the orchids are in bloom I get a call from them to pick them up.  I usually have a different arrangement for viewing at my office in Cary.  When the orchids are out of bloom I bring them back to the Orchid Trail.  The orchid growers lease … (4 comments)

things to do in raleigh: Things to Do in Raleigh - Catch a Segway Tour - 04/28/12 04:17 AM

Earlier this year my husband and I traveled to Miami, Florida for a weekend getaway. While we were there we discovered how fun Segway Tours can be. I never even thought to check to see if there is a Segway Tour in Raleigh. In downtown Raleigh Glide offers serveral Segway Tours including their new Raleigh West Segway touris a narrated glide that's infused with info about Raleigh's fascinating past, present and future.

The tour starts in the core of downtown then makes its way over to west side attractions, crossing train tracks and enjoying some hills.

things to do in raleigh: Pullen Park is a Great Thing to do with your family in Raleigh - 03/01/12 12:53 PM

One of my favorite things to do when families are coming to visit the Triangle to see if this will

be their next “home” is to take them to Pullen Park.  Raleigh has a great park system, and Pullen Park is newly renovated making it one of the best in the area. I had the opportunity to visit the park to check out the new renovations and I was incredibly impressed! The park has a lot to offer, but some of the main attractions include a refurbished carousel, a train, paddleboats, and an elaborate playground area.

things to do in raleigh: The BIG Reveal for the long awaited Raleigh Convention Center is this Friday - 09/01/08 03:43 PM
Join me for the grand 2-day celebration in downtown Raleigh this Friday. It's all a part of the $1 Billion investment in the transformation of Raleigh.  At the center of the transformation in downtown Raleigh is the opening of the Raleigh Convention Center.
The celebration has been tapped as Raleigh Wide Open.  Street entertainment, food booths, live music and fireworks are just part of the fun planned for the outdoor festival.  Entertainment highlights include  Arrested Development and Chuck Berry on Friday.  On Saturday Lou Gramm of Foreigner and Soul Asylum will perform live.
Besides the entertainment this is a culmination of years of planning.  … (8 comments)

things to do in raleigh: Things to Do with the Kids in the in Triangle - 08/06/08 09:54 AM
My only sister, Jennifer, is coming to visit this week with her two little boys all the way from San Antonio, TX.  Since I only have one daughter that's seventeen I thought I might need to check around to find out Things to Do with the Kids in the in Triangle.  I'm a bit rusty in this department other than advising my clients where to visit while they are in town. One of the things I really like about the Triangle is that there are so many things to do outdoors, especially in the summer time. It's time to plan my week with … (7 comments)

things to do in raleigh: Top 5 Things to Do in the Triangle Area of North Carolina - 06/30/08 04:21 PM
What a difficult task - Pick just 5 things to do in the Triangle area
I wouldn't have said that when I moved to the Triangle in 1991 but the Triangle has come a long way in such a short time and our area has so much to offer.   The Triangle area is now consistently receiving national attention as one of the Best Places to Live for its revitalization of the downtown Raleigh & Durham areas, consistent job growth, highly educated workforce, major universities, cultural activities, great nightlife, and much more.
If you are planning to move to the Triangle area of North … (15 comments)

things to do in raleigh: Kiplinger Chooses Raleigh as the #2 City to Live, Work, and Play - 06/24/08 08:26 AM
The July 2008 Kiplinger's Personal Finance magazine is set to hit the stands this week and guess who is at the top of the list? Our very own - Raleigh, NC.  Our town has a lot to be proud of.  I've lived here since 1991 and the town has come so far in such a short amount of time.  Here is a link to the video recorded by Bob Frick highlighting some of the wonderful attributes of our town.   I think you'll really enjoy this quick 2 minute video on the attributes of our town.
So what was the criteria for judging … (11 comments)

things to do in raleigh: Don't miss Holly Hill Day Lily Farm in Moncure, NC - 05/30/08 07:18 PM
In January I wrote about moving across town in, "Tracy Santrock's Moved On & Checking In w/Activerain".  Our new neighborhood and neighbors are warm and inviting.  They've really made the transition an easy one.  I was asked today by another agent in my office, "Are you happy about your move to Glenkirk? What do you like about Glenkirk?"  and I replied, "There isn't one thing I regret - the location, quality of home, neighborhood amenities, and the neighbors are all a big plus.
So, it can't be perfect.  What would be the ONE thing you would change?  Well everyone, I spent … (11 comments)

things to do in raleigh: Professional Hockey in North Carolina? You're kidding me right? - 02/29/08 09:18 PM
You betcha!  Ever since our very own Carolina Hurricanes won the Stanley Cup in the 2005-2006 season beating the Edmonton Oilers it has been Hurricane fever here in the Triangle.  Most of you know I'm a tennis player and a runner so I haven't really spent a lot of time writing about our Hurricanes.  I have had several families relocating to the area that didn't even know that the Hurricanes play out of Raleigh!! It's time to get the word out and give our wonderful team some credit.
So, how did the Hurricanes end up in the Triangle anyway?  Originally the Hurricanes … (18 comments)

things to do in raleigh: Raleigh NC Restaurant Scene Recognized by Bon Appetit - 10/19/07 03:22 PM
Last week I confessed that I'm not the best cook in the world and love to dine at local area restaurants.  I wrote a blog called My favorite Triangle Restaurants - Bon Appétit.   I've lived in the area since 1991(heck, I'm almost a native) and, until recently, there haven't been a large breadth and depth of restaurants  in town.  There were the tried and tested but rarely would we see emerging restaurants that had staying power.
With the influx of so many northerners in the area that have discerning taste buds the demand for upscale restaurants is increasing in the area. … (4 comments)

things to do in raleigh: My favorite Triangle Restaurants - Bon Appétit - 10/03/07 04:41 PM
It must be obvious that I'm not the best cook in the world.  I didn't spend a lot of time in the kitchen when I was little I must confess. I was always out playing in a tennis tournament or traveling.  My mother was, and still is, in real estate and she didn't really have time to cook.  She would be out showing properties all day in the heat and just didn't have the energy to cook.  Like mother, like daughter.
That said, I do like to go out to eat on the weekends with my husband Mauro and sometimes my 16-year … (18 comments)

things to do in raleigh: Triangle Guide to Fun - Arts, Activities, Concerts, Plays, Parks and More - 06/26/07 06:28 PM
The Triangle is such an incredible place to call home!! We have arts, culture, education, outdoors, and athletics all in one town.  We're spread out a bit but that never bothered me.
When you drive through the city you can see why the founding fathers nicknamed it "The City of Oaks."  Greater Raleigh Parks & Gardens have the unofficial motto, "Trees, Tees and PhD's," and for good reason. With more than 150 Raleigh, North Carolina parks, gardens, lakes and greenways in Raleigh alone, there are plenty of places to enjoy the scenery and see why the area was dubbed as America's … (1 comments)

things to do in raleigh: Monet Exhibit Comes To Raleigh-10/15/2006-1/14/2007 - 10/17/06 06:55 PM
A couple of years ago my husband and I spent a couple of weeks in Europe.  One of my fondest memories included a visit to Claude Monet's home in Giverny, France.  I actually got to see the actual Lily Pond that inspired the Monet paintings.  I'm so excited that they have taken Claude Monet's paintings on the road.  Over 50 paintings by this beloved impressionist are here in Raleigh.  This exhibit is a must see!!  His paintings include that  of Normandy's fields and coast, the garden and water lily pond at Giverny, and Rouen's cathedral.   For more details Visit the Monet … (3 comments)
