Yesterday, the Hawaii Legislature passed House Bill 1741 which (among many other things) aims to increase the conveyance taxes on the seller for the sale of properties priced at $2 Million and more. After facing federal sanctions for failing to meet adequate yearly progress (AYP) standards in the Federal No child left Behind program, 11 Hawaii public schools have sucessfully appealed their status.

According to a recent press release from the Department of Education, Hawaii's Class of 2007 students taking the SAT had higher scores in reading (by 2 points) and writing (by 1 point), but lower scores in mathematics (by 3 points), than last year. National average scores for this year, as compared to last, were lower in reading, writing and math. Reading scores dropped one point, writing dropped three points, and math fell three points nationally.When examined by type of school:

Despite some major problems on both Kauai (due to local protesters on surfboards) and Maui (a temporary restraining order from the Hawaii Supreme Court, prohibiting entry into Maui's Kahului Harbor), the new Hawaii Interisland Superferry made its first scheduled passenger voyage this past Sunday. According to Laurie Moore-Moore, the Executive Director for the Institute for Luxury Home Marketing, citing statistics from the World Wealth Report, more and more people are becoming financial millionaires.
