Save on your electric bill? Solar Screens can help...

Solar Screens can help save with your Electric Bill

Last summer our home was difficult to cool. The air conditioner would run all day trying to keep the back of our home cool. The summer heat and afternoon sun would come directly through the regular screen and increase heat and even cause the curtains and carpet to fade.  We are using Sun Guard 90 Ultra Sun Block which we did ourself. Solar Screen

We are using a Charcoal color, which I was not sure would work, but after re-screening a couple screens it worked great. Just sorry we didn't do it earlier. I also purchased the black splne to match the screen.

Here is what it looks like and is a very nice weight. If you want to save money on your electric bill you may want to consider window solar screen. You can purchase at Lowe's or Home Depot.

This is something you can do yourself...Ceil even got into the act and is now considered a Pro.

Howdy there Carl and Ceil

I remember your post about this last year. It sure does look fine. I don't get to Inspect a lot of home with Air Conditioner's here. Most folk's don't have them in their home. Most of the snow in the around town is gone now. They are talken that we will get up to 50 degrees tomorrow.

It was cold outside today.

Dale - Most folks have air condition here in Texas. It gets really hot in July and August. So far our spring has been nice, we had  drizzle today and maybe some rain tomorrow.

I have to go to a three day class, Thursday, Friday and Saturday to get my hours for TAREI. I'm real glad to go to this class as they are training on New Home Phase Inspections so may be able to pick up some good information.

Howdy there Carl and Ceil

Back home in Missouri most folks also have air conditioning. I have to tell ya I get a real hoot, when I hear folks say it's so hot, when it's only 75 degrees out. They'll ask me how can you stand having a long sleeve shirt on. So I have to tell them it's just not hot to me. And as far as wearing a long sleeve shirt, that comes from working out in the brush on the range of ranch's.

I'm sure you'll pick up some real good information, about New Home Phase Inspections. Sure does sound like a good class to go to. I alway look for and enjoy learning.

Hi Carl and Ceil, We have been thinking about getting these screes.  Especially on our west windows.

Shirley it will be well worth it. Wish we had investigated it sooner as it has helped not only with keeping the heat out but has helped with the electric bill.

I can definitively state that mirrored window tinting works too and leaves the view unobstructed (providing one has a view, of course).

Russell - year's ago we had that mirrored window film on our patio doors and it worked well but after twenty some years it started to get spots on it so we removed the film. I see they still sell it at Lowe's and Home Depot, wouldn't mind putting it on again but it is the devil to get it on the patio doors. Windows are no problem. I best be quiet I may be making additional work for myself.
