Recipe Cards in the Mail - What do you think about it?

By

Recipe Cards - Do you send them?  Do you look at them?

I do, but I watch the Food Network too.  Do the people who receive them look at them?   Will they call that agent when they are ready to list their house?   Will they call when they are ready to buy?

The rule of thumb I always hear is send them something of value and make it real estate related.

I got a new recipe card today from the neighborhood Realtor,  I may try the recipe, but I already know a good agent.

I do read them, I don't send them.  Is it a good touch?  What do you think?

Here is my favorite Oatmeal Raisin Cookie recipe  -  My personal twist is to add 1 cup crushed walnuts.   Mmmm  so Good!

Great for open houses!

If you are having trouble reading this recipe it is on the box top of Quaker Oat Meal Box

Hi Mike,

I've never sent recipe cards and probably won't.  I have sent some of the other canned cards until I got a few in the mail from other agents and found they didn't move me. I've had the best luck - and spent the least - sending out letters with info about neighborhood sales. But that being said, almost anything you can send to your SOI is ok - keeps your name in front of them.

My opinion of recipe cards that companies provide is...sometimes they are not tried and true, not always regional related..(we tend to eat different in different parts of the country).  I would much rather send out a newsletter with a tried and true recipe perhaps for a holiday coming up.  Alot of folks cook, and will collect good recipes...but probably just as many don't cook or not interested in a recipe... So perhaps something else in the newsletter will grab their attention...so you don't loose them all together with just a recipe... Just my opinion!

I don't send those. I would rather send something real estate specific.  I wish you the best.

No recipe cards.  Giving them something of value, that they can use or pass on to a friend, that relates to you and your business makes more sense.

Mike,

I never sent and I never will.  Being a consumer and an agent, I realize if I am going to sell or buy I think the mailing needs to be real estate related not cooking.

Thanks for the post,

Matt Naumann

Mike,

If you are going to do mailings, send out a Real Estate based newsletter. Show them your an source of information about Real Estate and not ccoking. They will better remember you when they need Real Estate help.

It matters to us as much as it matters to you.

Thanks for all the great input, I probably won't send them but after receiving one in the mail I thought the AR community might like to weigh-in on this topic.  And I wasn't disappointed with the response.  Once again Rainers, great thoughts and insights.

I have sent out recipe cards in the past. They brought more actual business than I expected. Will probably send them again sometime in the future.

Interesting. One of my mortgage specialists sends me recipe postcards on a regular basis. I've kept them, but I am no so sure why, as I don't really have a need for the recipies, as I know how to cook. I haven't decided to use such a ploy myself to market my services, but if it works for others, I might consider it.

It has gotten too expensive to send recipe cards by mail. However, we do receive a postive response when we include recipes with our mass emails.

I think it is a great idea and I send them myself. I send them to the people in my sphere who like to cook and or bake or people I meet who enjoy being in the kitchen too. I have my contact informatino on everything I send out so if for some reason my sphere makes a copy of that recipe for someone thay person now has my contact infomation too. If you enjoy doing something and find other people who enjoy the same thing you have developed a bond and they will remeber you. Not only will they remeber you for sharing great recipes they will remeber you as a real estate agent.
