A dental chair is the LAST place I'd like to be, but...

I don't like to go to the dentist.  Okay, that's a serious understatement.  I HATE going to the dentist.  But in recent years with my parents "good teeth" started to break and loose fillings I have decided that it is necessary even if I hate it.

I had some dentral trauma as a child and I had a horrible root canal as an adult.  After I got my crown I waited 15 years before going back to a dentist and I really didn't like the dentist I did go to see after that.

But in the past few years my husband has needed some major dental work including some oral surgery and he likes his dentist, so recently I gave them a try and I have to admit it was the best experience I've ever had in a dental chair.

I went to The Dental Care Center in Macon Georgia on Mercer University Drive.  I readily admit I'm a pansy when it comes to the dentist.  And maybe that is an understatement also.

And when the hygienist saw that I brought my husband to the room with me to have my teeth cleanedshe asked if there was a problem.  When my husband burst into laughter and said that I might need a little prompting to open my mouth.  I asked if she could just knock me out and clean my teeth, but unfortunately that's not an option for just a cleaning.  BUT, she did offer a spray on analgesic and that was a first for me.  Of course it's two days later and my gums hurt, so I would have liked it more if she'd let me bring that little bottle home with me, but over all I got my teeth cleaned and it wasn't SO bad.  She asked if I'd be back in 6 months and while I'm not up for THAT often I may go back in a year.

The only down side to my fondness of the new dentist is location.  They are located about 45 minutes from Lake Sinclair.  Of course there is an upside to the location, they are right next door to Macon Mall and right down the street from Sam's Club, so I also got some shopping done.

So if you, like me, are not so fond of going to the dentist.  You might want to give The Dental Care Center a try.  It's really not THAT bad.

Tammy...

I also can't stand going to the denist. I've developed this strange aversion to pain over the last few months. Going to the dentist is waaaaaaaaay at the bottom of my health care list. I can't seem to get myself to understand it's NOT like I'm volunteering to allow someone to induce pain :)

TLW...ROAR!

Tammy, my dentist is 50 minutes away, but he's a family friend.  He never hurts me, I usually laugh the entire time I am there and I get to kiss him hello and goodbye and he's cute!  So there you have it.  I hate to go, only because it become somewhat of an all day affair, but I love to see him and I always get a good laugh out of it!

TLW- that is exactly how I feel... like I'm volunteering for pain and isn't that, well stupid.  I feel like such a child about it.  It's the one thing I can't shake though.

Susan- Nice lady dentist who I saw yesterday after my cleaning so kissing there.  And I did get a new blender so now I can have frozen margaritas again.

Hi Tammy, The fear of the dentist, ESPECIALLY one you don't like is so real for a lot of people!    I think it's really important to find a Dentist you like, we have had the same Dentist for over 30 years!! and he is great. We were lucky to find him.

You really did a good thing overcoming your fear, and being brave! Way to go Tammy!! I love the cartoon you picked, too!

Um, yes Zane maybe you should consider the doctor if you fell off the roof.  And I'm not even a nurse and and I think Becky should MAKE you go.

When the dentist came in she asked if Donald stayed back there with me like a prison guard keeping me in the chair... Little does she know, he is a prison guard.  And I'm thinking of printing a large copy of that cartoon (it's part of a package of clip art I have) and taking it to replace her current ceiling art. :)

Put 40 years of experience to work for you

I always get that numbing stuff applied to my teeth before they start to clean. No numbing stuff? Well, you're not getting near me with that ice pick or laser tool.

You sound just like my husband.  He HATES the dentist (who happens to be a good friend) and my husband is a doctor of all things.  How can a doctor hate be afraid of the dentist?  I don't think anything bad has even happened to him.  I give him a pretty bad time about it.  Maybe I should be a better wife and offer to go with him like your husband did :~)

My first trauma was getting a tooth pulled as a child.  The new one was on it's way in and the baby tooth just would not let go and it bled all night and mom carried me back to the dentist and he sent her off rushing me to the doctor telling her I must be a hemophiliac (since my dad's dad was one it was possible)  I got stuck and pocked and prodded and then ended up back at the dentist to get stitches in my mouth.  I don't remember exactly how old, but under 9 because we hadn't moved yet.  Haven't like a dentist since.
