What is a Dough Bowl?

What is a Dough Bowl?

A Dough Bowl was used in the older days for mixing dough.  They come in all sizes and can be difficult to find, especially if you are looking for one of the "old used ones".

Boyd (hubby) & I had purchased an "old used one" several years ago and we use it when we cook "Beaufort Stew" (also known as Frogmore Stew).  If you have never cooked this, you are missing a great opportunity.  It is so easy and such an easy delightful meal for guests.  It is definitely a casual meal. It consists of corn, potatoes, and shrimp -- all cooked together in a large pot.  A lot of folks serve it on newspapers in the middle of the table and everyone just gathers around to eat.   We use our large dough bowl in which to serve ours.

As it turns out, one of our AgentOwned Realty Agent-Owners has a hobby of making dough bowls. Billy Geddings of our Manning office is the talented Agent-Owner.  This is one that he made for us.

He makes them in his gargage --- all completely hand made -- the SC palmetto tree and emblem are carefully engraved into the wood ---they are absolutely beautiful and the best thing is that when you have finished using it, you just wipe it out and it is ready for the next time.

If anyone out there would be interested in one of these, you can email Billy Geddings at:BillyGeddingsAgentOwned@hotmail.com

Liz - How beautiful!  Yes, I will email him.  I have Bruce's grandmother's and my grandmother's dough bowls - both hand carved and well used!  They are treasures!
