The Easiest Optimized WordPress Landing Page You Can Make!

By
Real Estate Agent with Century 21 Results Realty

Technologists and marketers agree that the best way to convert site visitors is to give them EXACTLY what they want as soon as they show up on your website.  And for years, the technologically astute and companies with budgets for this sort of thing have built Landing Pages optimized for particular consumers to deliver the information that they desire, right there on the front page.

But us little guys or those that couldn't design their own pages were locked out.

However, lurking in the capability... largely unnoticed... of WordPress has been that of making customized landing pages.  Dozens.  More than dozens.

Now, I will throw out a caveat that it doesn't work the same for all themes.  But, most themes DO have the capability to make these pages without altering the basic delivery of the content.  The themes that are going to be the most difficult to use this way are 'magazine' themes.  Because of the way they arrange their front page content, the posts may just appear as a boring list.  That can also happen with some other themes.

What is the trick, you ask?

Tags & Categories.  Yep.  The first step is to maintain tags or categories for the content you want to present.  If you want to have a series of posts presented together, tag or categorize them the same way.  First Time Home Buyers, Sellers, Reviews, Listings...  All of these can be easily created...  In fact, most of us already have similar tags for our WordPress blogs.  So, when writing about a particular subject, instead of leaving a generic link, you can set up a link like this.  http://lanebailey.com/tag/gwinnett/ This presents all of the posts i have published about Gwinnett County.

This IS available on other sites.  For example, it could be applied to your Active|Rain blog.  However, it gives kind of an ugly page to land on.

Lane's A|R WordPress Tips

There are lots of ways to use this.  We also know from SEO experts that DeepLinking delivers a little more juice than just linking to the front page.  Google DOES index tag and category pages.  This is a great way to use those abilities to deliver a little more juice or more readers to slightly broader areas than just linking to a single post.

Enjoy...

Lane, its good to focus attention on landing pages.  Thanks.

Just incase someone may not have realized it, you can use your ActiveRain Blog Posts as landing pages too.  The URL in the address bar is the page address.  Once you have that you can create links that will take people directly to that page.

I setup entire automated email marketing campaigns that contain links that take recipients to specific landing pages on my clients Web sites and Blog pages.

Maureen - I am glad it was useful for you.

Ray - I had a line on the post about it.  The tag page is kind of ugly... and of course you can use individual posts.  Permalinking is a great thing to do whenever you have the chance.

Lane, I've heard so much about wordpress, but don't exactly know how it works.  I still need to figure this out so I can create a blog, and then I can start working on landing pages.

Troy - WordPress rocks!  I love A|R, but there is a level of control with WordPress that makes it rank a little higher in my plan.  This 'landing page' capability is just one of the cool options.

Your website is beautiful! I love how you keep true to your theme of cars and garages! Really cool!  My husband is an artist and paints landmarks from the 50's & 60's with classic cars in them.  This reminds me of some of his paintings...

Hi Lane, I've decided that my next website is going to be on Wordpress so I have been doing my research. I clicked on both of your landing page links and this is the message I get.

I just thought you should know so you can fix it. You can delete my comment after you have fixed it.

Wayne - Seems to be an IE problem... and there are many.  I just openned it in FF and Chrome without a problem.  Luckily I don't use those links much.  I'll have to check into what tweak I have to make for IE...

Lanre - I don't but in WordPress (and Active Rain), by linking to tag groups, you can make a focused landing page.
