Twin Pick Memorial Day Weekend -- Tickle Your Memory Gland

The music trivia posts that I call Twin-Pick, are interesting as far as statistics here at Active Rain. They get few comments but a ton of clicks. I think that people like to tickle their memory glands in private but they do not have much to say afterwards. They do not want to brag about their success or wallow in self-pity. Regardless, I have a good time putting the trivia together, so here goes another one.

Since Broadway and London's West End are big parts of our musical culture, I think that focusing on show tunes is a good way to look at music on this Memorial Day weekend. People often go out for dinner and shows on holidays.

If you do not know how Twin-Pick works -- how it that possible -- it is simple.

The rules are always the same -- there are no losers -- only those who get to try and try again. If you are correct, your right answer will strap you into and transport you in the time machine back to an important event in music history. You will see the original hit artist perform the original song. If you get it wrong, well, then you get the big red raspberry. Remember, you are scored online -- no need to ask me if you are right or wrong. When you click on an answer, you will know. Here comes our Memorial Day question.

Here in the USA, the first musical theater production opened in New York City back in 1866. Since then, catchy show tunes have charted by original artists and they have been covered by others.  Which song, from the choices below, is listed by Billboard Magazine as the #1 most successful show tune of all time?

A. People (Funny Girl)-- Barbara Streisand

B. Memory (Cats) -- Betty Buckley

C. Hello Dolly (Hello Dolly) -- Louis Armstrong

D. Mack the Knife (Three Penny Opera) -- Bobby Darin

Check out "This Day In History" -- music and vintage television from the 1950's through the 1980's.  I enjoy writing these articles because they take me back to my days in radio broadcasting. Click on Elvis' gold record, below, to revisit those golden hits of yesteryear.

Steve, this was fun and enjoyable. Growing up as a rock and roll teen, one of my idols was Bobby Darin. I loved his "Splish Splash I was taking a bath" Memories. Thank you and have a great enjoyable Memorial Day weekend.memorial day

Tony,

You are too young to remember back then. You do not know what a monster Darin had there.

I got a raspberry the first time, but got it right the second.

Of the four, there were two that I thought would be right.

I might not be the sharpest knife in the drawer, but I'm not spoon either. (Attributed to the guy who did Far Side -- Gary Larson -- his wiki link).
