An Organized YOU is a BETTER YOU

Computer ScreenSomehow this image is what I imagine my computer desktop as well as my life should look like because

An Organized YOU is a BETTER YOU.

It is true you know. Everything should have a folder or a place for it. I understand folders with computer files and places to store papers and nit nacks at the house. I must admit I am having a problem with the flow though. More in, than goes out. The "velocity" of the in stuff from all areas of my life keeps increasing.

And people wonder why I have second thoughts about more inputs like Twitter and Facebook.

Decluttering all areas of our lives as any Feng Shui expert would say, HAS to increase our energy. Then again, there is that thought that an immaculate desk is the sign of a sick mind. Surely we can strike some balance in our lives of "reasonably neat." Cleanliness is next to Godliness? God must not be happy with me lately.

Do you struggle with the decluttering of your world too? Surely I am not the only one in this frenetic world we live in nowadays. But look at that landscape. Peaceful. Serene. Makes decluttering almost worthwhile.

Hi Gary, I am one of those decluttering advocates.

If I want business to start coming in I delete all the telephone numbers from my Blackberry that I can't remember who they are or haven't had any dealings with for over a year. Magically the phone rings with new business. Feng shui at work I am sure.

I have to say, I have a very organized computer, files that are filed and important dates (waivers etc.) programmed in to remind me in a timely fashion to check on the progress of various deals. But, aside from that, my real world desk is often a disaster.

I used to fret and get upset by it - but over time I've come to realize something. If you are busy being successful, decluttering at the expense of client service can actually harm your business. I make certain what has to be put away is put away in it's place and once every week or two I do a mass culling of useless paper and either put it in my box for reuse (the blank side), shred it, or recycle it. But other than those few hours every couple of weeks it's all about the clients - and I think the various studies out of Harvard Business School and other respected sources suggesting that neat and tidy does not in fact indicate greater productivity or success has made me comfortable with my reality. That, and many of the most successful people I've know - particularly entrepreneurs, have been absolute disasters when it comes to full on organized minimalism.

To each his own - just don't let anything get in the way of doing the job properly - but aside from that, to each his own! ;o)

Systems in place are good to keep organized, as long as their aren't too many systems.

Organization is critical--it just feel different for everyone!

Does anyone else ever feel like paper is taking over their lives?  I am a constant shredder, recycler, tosser, but it just keeps on coming!
