Military Spouse:  The Toughest Job in the World

It is easy to pack a few bags, get on a plane and head off to a foreign land to fight a battle with no front line.  It is easy to wake yourself up in the morning under the rising sun in the Iraqi or Afghan sky and motivate yourself for another day in "paradise".  It is easy to fall asleep while you are being safely guarded by your battle buddies.  It is easy to count down days on a calendar until you are finished with your tour of duty and are headed home.

Who has the real tough job?  A military wife.  There is no doubt in my mind that it is the most difficult job in the world.  I will point out early that there are many other jobs that are very difficult but this occupation takes one hell of a woman to handle it.

Could you handle taking care of kids, the house, lawn, cars, sick kids, naughty kids, bills, daycare, diaper changes, bedtime stories, grocery shopping, graduations, news reports of American Service Members getting hurt or dying daily and wondering if it is your spouse, RUMORS, deaths in the family etc.....

These military wives handle all of these things as if there were no thought involved.  It mystifies me to see these women handle all of those items that I would consider overwhelming to say the least.

I also wanted to thank my wife Tonya for she has achieved another major milestone as an Army wife.  Even though we have been retired from the military for a few years already, the fruits of her labor have shined upon us recently and she deserves credit for it.

Cameron Kucic, our 18 year old son, just graduated from high school.  Not a major accomplishment you might say?  To many it is not.  But in my eyes, she has done one hell of a job again as a military wife.  I was deployed to Iraq in support of Operation Iraqi Freedom from 2004-2005 right in the heart of Camerons high school years.  While Tonya was juggling everything listed in the paragraph above, she also managed to keep our son on a path to success.  He graduated with a cumulative GPA of 3.8, made the Principals List, has been offered several college scholarships for academics and athletics and is just an all around damn good kid.

I salute all of the military wives around the world for the things you do for your service member so that they can perform their duties and keep us enjoying our freedom in the greatest country on earth.

I congratulate all of you for your sacrifices and contributions!  Sounds like you and your son are lucky to have Tonya and she is lucky to have someone who recognizes all that she has accomplished!

Bob-Coming from a Vietnam Veteran you know exactly what I am talking about.  Thanks for your service Sir and thanks for paving the way for me to follow.  Aloha.

Renee-Thanks!  Yes, very lucky.  Unfortunately, I never realized it until I had retired and just now giving Tonya and all of the other Military Spouses the credit they deserved for all of those years.
