My first 5k!

By
Real Estate Agent with Coldwell Banker Vision

Saturday was the day! I can't believe that I actually jogged my first 5k. I would have said that I "ran" but it really doesn't qualify for running when I go so slow.

We started out the gates and I hung back because I knew that I would be slow.

I didn't anticipate hills and grass to hinder me as much as they did.
In fact, I went much slower than my normal "practice" times....

The intimidation that I felt when people were turned and on their way back when I was just pushing through the first mile was really rough.
I appreciated their words of encouragement, but wanted to sit down and cry at my feeling of failure.

I really didn't think that I would be so stinking slow as I was, but what do you do?

Right now I'm trying to refocus, to feel the feeling of accomplishment (as I did finish the race) and to continue moving forward to my race in September.
It can only get better from here, right?

Just a P.S. I don't think that I would have finished if I didn't have my activerainer friends pushing me along! Thanks for your long-range support!

If you are looking for professional real estate services I am only a ring away! I am looking forward to working with you.

Lindsay, 3 years ago I told my trainer that I wanted to do a 5k. I never did it that year. Then in 2008, I had just turned 50, I decided to do the 1/5 marathon. I finished but believe me I didn't run it. This 4th of July I did my first 5k where I Ran jogged the entire way without walking. It's exciting to finally do it.

Keep at it. You'll only get better! Congratulations on doing it!!!

Great job. I can run about 20 minutes or so on the tread mill and then I am done.

Yeah Connie! Thanks for the encouragement.

Chuck - The reality is that a lot of the runners that I was with at my 5k did the run in 20 minutes.

Lindsey,

Congratulations! That is AWESOME.  You should feel very proud of your accomplishment.  You are never competing against other runners in any race.  You are competing against all of your self-imposed limitations and the fact that you had the courage to even lace up the shoes and stand at the starting line places you so far ahead of most folks that would never have the guts to attempt what you FINISHED.  Not to mention the fact that you accomplished a goal that at some point in your life you thought may be an impossibility.

Keep smashing those limitations.

Tim

Lindsey,  Did you do some outside training?  Spending too much time on a treadmill can hurt your performance when faced with real world condtions such as hills, wind and so on.. I'll pay more attension to your training workout and give you a kick so you be happy in September.

Thanks Tim - I'm working on feeling proud! In the meantime... I just keep moving forward. :0)

Dan - Sounds like a plan! Our house has been sick this week so I haven't gotten my runs in but training starts again tomorrow!
