Buying Organic Vegetables in Franklin TNDelvin Farms

Every Saturday you can be sure to find the Delvin Farms Organic Vegetables Booth at the Franklin TN Factory. Thousands of people shop at the Farmers Market in Franklin, and Hundreds sign up each year to b a part of the CSA program offered by Delvin Farms.

Buying Organic Vegetables in Franklin TN was not always an easy thing to do. The Delvin family has been providing local produce since 1972. Their 94 acre farm is located in the town of  College Grove, south and east of Franklin. They grow a wonderful variety of organic veggies almost all year long.

“We believe in growing methods that improve our environment by enhancing the quality of our water, building our soils for healthy plants and by not using harmful chemicals in our farming. Our organic vegetables are packed with nutrients extracted from our deep mineral rich soils, clean air and fresh water. “ says Cindy Delvin.

Hank and Cindy Delvin are the heart and soul behind this farm. Neither of them were here on Saturday because the prior Saturday, on his way to the market with a truck full of vegetables, Hank was in a head-on collision. He is doing better, but still in the hospital. You can follow his progress at their blog delvinfarmsorganic.Delvin Farms

The Delvin family farm consists of Hank and Cindy (mom and dad) their daughter Amy, their son Hank Jr., his wife Liz and baby Ryder.

Organic Produce in Franklin TNWhen looking for Organic Vegetables in the Franklin TN area, one usually ends up at a Community Supported Agriculture farmer, commonly known as CSA. People usually join a CSA project for fresh, ripe, and locally grown foods. Anyone who has bought tomatoes after November or before May, know that they are picked green and then shipped across the United States, hoping that they ripen along the way. They are often genetically engineered to survive these long trips. That's assuming, of course, that they're even grown in the USA.

With access to a farm, the freshness and taste totally astonds many. Cindy will tell you:  "People start eating vegetables they never liked before because they had never tasted them vine-ripened and chemical-free. By providing this service, consumers can be certain, through direct contact and knowing their grower, that their food is produced in the safest of environments."

The Delvins can be found each Saturday at the Franklin Farmers Market. Located behind the Factory on Franklin Road. You may also visit them at their farm in College Grove. For more information, or directions visit their website Delvin Farms.

Lenn - Thank you. I can honestly say that by participating in the CSA I am getting all of the vegetables that the FDA reccommends. Finally!

Darin - This is cracking me up! I just woke up and was going to check my email. Who would have thought. My second feature. WooHoo! LOL

Lana - I had Blackberries and Raspberries in my yard and the Mocking Birds ate them all. Now I have big beautiful tomatoes growing and they're eating them too! I'm done. Let someone else do the work and take my money!

Kim - Thank you. I really support the Farmers Market and expecially Delvin Farms. This is my second year and I think EVERYONE that doesn't grow their own should consider it.

Thom - good luck with that. I've tried and I give up!

Richard - The neighborhood across the street just started one so now I have 2 to go to! I love it!

David - I couldn't agree more. Hank, I last heard, will have to have 2 months of bed rest. They needed to operate on his hip but when they went in they found an infection and they need for that to clear up first. He is in all of our prayers.

Connie... Really a great local story blog.  I stopped by, not because I'm an organic fanatic, but because my sister lives outside Franklin, and grows many of her family's veggies organically also.  I know how much I enjoy eating at her house when I visit.  I really envy you having such a great facillity so close.  And waht a fantastically beautiful part fo the country!

Connie - thanks for posting this!  I love the Farmers Market at the Factory!  Being in Leipers Fork though, it's a bit of a jaunt to pick up a couple of veggies, so we tend to grow our own in the summer.  BUT... now that there is a farmers market in Leipers Fork (Wednesdays!) it's alot easier to get them (which is becoming more and more important as these storms are wrecking havoc on my garden).   I'm thinking CSA is my next step!  Hope to see you around Franklin!

Lou - Thanks for stopping by!

Tori - Good to see you! If I lived in Leipers Fork I'd grow my own too! I have tomatoes and herbs in my flower beds but right now I'm fighting the Mocking Birds for the tomatoes!! The CSA is great. Really makes you eat a lot of vegies. We have to do the 1/5 share because the full is just too much for 2 people.

Angela, thank you for the feature! This is probably my favorite thing to do on Saturday mornings. I take the dog and we just wander from booth to booth.

Connie, thanks for sharing. I'm from New Jersey, the "Garden State" and we have a farmers market set up in the Municipal parking lot on Saturday morning. The produce you find there is the best! Regards,

Frank, we have a lot of those too. The Franklin market tends to be mostly organic including the meats and cheeses.

Barbara - I was truly surprised about how hard it was to get really good produce when we first moved here. Now it is much more available and people really should take advantage of buying locally.
