The Feng Shui Bedroom in Hampton Bays Long Island New York

Feng Shui Consultants are taught certain "rules" to follow in Feng Shui.  This Feng Shui Consultant in New York occasionally doesn't follow them.

Feng Shui Rules for the Bedroom include no mirrors, no computers or tv's, only pictures of you and your spouse or the person you'd like to attract, no wires under the bed and using only peaceful, restful colors to promote better sleep.

They ALL have good reasons behind them but they're not very practical.  Some people have a lack of space and have no where else to put their computer; some people want a mirror to get dressed in the morning and there is no other place to put one and some of my clients want special pictures that have meaning to THEM in their bedrooms.

When working with Feng Shui Bedrooms, there is no one answer for everyone.  We all have different needs for our space and it must feel good to US.  Particularly in choosing colors for the bedroom, many of my clients will like an impact wall or they love the color red and want to incorporate FIRE energy in their bedrooms.

I love the use of Color in Feng Shui and have never believed that it affected your sleep if the lights are out.  Some of us want a tv or a mirror and if it's reflective quality Is directed at us, we can cover them at night.

This is a picture of a beautiful Bedroom with lovely Feng Shui already in place in Hampton Bays Long Island New York.  It shows a wood headboard (headboards in the Form School of Feng Shui "back us up" at night).  It also shows balance and a picture that was sacred to this couple.

Every home is different, every client is different.  Some Feng Shui Rules do not work well for some clients so as New York Feng Shui Consultants we work with them to enhance their space and harmonize their energy.

Carole, I am so onboard with making the bedroom a quiet place, from the rest of the world.

Carole - I see Feng Shui as an interpretive art, so there is a flexibility in it all.  And I also see Feng Shui as a very personal art.  Not everyone is going to want, need, or expect the same results from their consultation or plan.  Am I getting close to understanding some of this?  It fascinates me ... and you are the consummate professional IMO.  BTW - I think that bedroom is stunning!

Carole ~ It sounds like the key here is balance.  You have a unique way of interpreting what meets the needs and lifestyle of your clients.  I can understand that TV's or mirrors have a place in the bedroom.... I'm sure that clients like your way of making their living space just right for them.

We have too many mirrors in our bedroom and keep planning to take them down. I don't want a double marriage, LOL. We also have a TV but that is not going to ever go out no matter how much I discuss this with hubby. He falls asleep at night by TV. Not me. I can not have the tv on. Our properity section of our home is in our bedroom so I have a corner set up with my vision board, hearts in doubles, my chinese coins, crystals, etc, and black and red going on there in that corner with a splash of purple and then I set the intent to make money:) Katerina

I like the fact that you say that "it must feel good to us".  Isn't that the bottom line...making people comfortable and happy in their homes?

Hi Carole-I love that bedroom. Very pretty. I don't have a computer in the bedroom but I do have a TV although it doesn't work and a mirror that is attached to the dresser but I use the one in my bathroom. I love learning all about the different things that feng-shui has to offer. Great post. Have a great Friday. :-)

To work for anyone we must allow for their own wants and needs.  I think your approach allows the essence of Feng Shui to be conveyed while respecting the individual.  You do wonderful work Carole.

Gary, Rest and Restore for bedrooms.  And also a place to unify if you have a partner.  Other things we incorporate in here are ways of finding a partner if you don't have one :)

Carol, You're not close to understanding it, you're there.  It is about Energy...and Energy follows intent.  The way we think and act has a huge effect on the results.  Just like POSITIVE ABILITY.

Hannah, Not too many pillows...you want to leave room for someone to come in.  And FIT perfectly.

Maria, This was a perfect example of good Feng Shui in a bedroom.  Balance (among other things) is important.

Joan, We have to be flexible and make it work for our clients.  No sense in creating a "Feng Shui Space" if they're not going to be  happy in it!

Katerina, I'd take down whatever mirrors I could and cover the rest at night.  Otherwise your bedroom sounds beautiful and it's working!  The tv?  I would shut it off and if it's reflective I would cover that as well.

Lisa, Yes it is but some people may get too caught up in the rules and don't allow for flesibilty or client's tastes and decor.  It HAS to feel good to them, they live there.

Hi Pat, When you can remove or replace the tv, it might not be a bad idea.  Also if you like you can deflect from the mirror energy with a large vase and silk flowers or plants on the dresser....you are doubling the energy of anything it is reflecting.

Paddy, It is easy to get caught up in the rules although I am strict on a few things because I have seen over the years such ill effects.  But I always work with my clients.

Opps I have wires under my bed, for my computer and sleep number mattress, some family photos, and a fan over my bed. ( I remember you posted on that not being good, awhile back.

Carole

I like the idea of the quiet room, and it is a must to have a large bedrrom that is peaceful. In my case I have a big doggie that takes up the whole bed.

Carole--Each time I read one of your posts I learn more about Feng Shui.  I am glad to learn that you can work with the clients their needs and their preferences.  My bedroom is soft gray-green.  It took me a few years to decide on the right color.  It had tto 'feel right.'  But like a few others who commented we have TV & mirror in bedroom.  I have no problem falling asleep while Hubby watches TV.

Missy, Fans worry me the most.  They have such sharp, cutting energy and can cause health problems over a period of time.  I just asked another client to remove one and I'm glad they did.  The wires under the bed are electro magnetic energy, not good for sleeping.

Kate, Good, I'm actually glad to hear that.  Some advise you should not try to make Feng Shui changes on your own and I think it's wonderful.  If yuo don't like it, you can change it back.

Tom, Lars is full of love....I can't see that being anything but wonderful!

Mary, Feng Shui principles are no mirrors in the bedroom.  When we can see what they're reflecting, sometimes they work...other times we can move them (and yes, sometimes we cover or deflect from them).  It depends on the room and the occupants.

One "rule" I learned, which I really "get" is that in the master bedroom, there should be 2 nightstands with space for each person. Equal space for each person rather than one night stand with a lamp and the bed pushed to the corner where one person has to climb over to get into bed.  The "climber" is being made unequal to the partner with the conveniences and space.  I see that your couple has equality with tables and lamps, nice...

Carole ~ this post is so interesting.  I could never, ever be comfortable in the bedroom in the photo here, for a number of reasons.  But to each their own!  (I admit that I do fall asleep with the TV sleep timer on, but fortunately I sleep like a log and wake up happy.)
