3599 DELETED MESSAGES

By
Real Estate Agent with Dunnigan, Realtors, Sacramento (916) 425-9715 CalBRE # 01188158

Okay..I will be the first to admit that I am no computer genius.  You might guess that by the title of this blog!

I love Outlook! Not exactly intuitive for other things, but nothing better for receiving e-mails!  It had started acting up a little of late and I couldn't figure out why.  I looked to see if something was running in the background...nooooo. Any other little blips that I could figure out....noooooo.

Oh, I wonder if 3599 deleted messages that weren't completely deleted might be a problem? QUIT LAUGHNG!!!!!!

So, why are you hearing from me when I have been very remiss with the Rain of late?  Because my computer is deleting my deleted messages and it has 3 hours to go! QUIT LAUGHING, DARN IT!

I am now on my laptop, which doesn't have the stuff on it I need to work on...but I can write to my friends and give them a good laugh! OKAY..NOW YOU CAN LAUGH!

I am an Outlook person too. I have set Outlook to delete the delete box every time I leave Outlook and that solves that problem. I love the spam filter, and I set rules for incoming recurring emails to go directly to folders. Keeping the inbox clean is also important. Tech can really rule us, and having an expert who can come to the source helps too. I use Pat Zaby's Respond that turns my Outlook into a real estate specific database, so Outlook is my everything. Don't forget to back up too. Losing data can make you go crazy.

Hey Paula -- Computers are complex machines and just as soon as you learn one thing, there are five more things waiting to be learned!  Never ending isn't it?

Yikes... This makes one wonder how many un-deleted emails there are in the universe? That answer will make us all feel very tiny in the grand scheme of things...

Thanks for the sharing your plight. It sounded funny at first, until I read that it needed 3 more hours to delete the messages. That's definitely not funny...and it sounds like de-fragging your hard drive will be in order to help speed up the performance.

If your only using Outlook for email, switch to Windows Live Mail. I just checked and I have well over 9,000 emails in my deleted folder and I suffer from no slow down. There is no good reason to leave that many in the deleted folder, I know. To those who suggest Outlook Express.... You will get a big shock when you run out of space, the program will fail completely and you will loose ALL of your emails! Switch now! Don't risk loosing your communication history.

Paula - Only one other thing that I didn't see here in the comments unless I missed it of course... don't forget to compact all folders... after you delete all those messages. This will also help out the speed factor...

Right click on Personal folders

Click on advanced

Then click compact now....

and off it goes... then defrag the puter

Hope this helps and good luck...

One way to save your information is to archive it. This will allow you to still access the old messages without it taking up the space needed for your new ones. BTW, I use outlook and google frequently.

I do that too, I forget to clean out my deleted box quite often. With so many spam emails and newsletters, it fills up quickly too!

And this is exactly why I stopped using OUTLOOK and use GOOGLE GMAIL and GOOGLE CONTACTS now! What a huge difference. Outlook crashes my laptop! It takes forever because it is all downloading on to the hard drive. With Google, it is all on line, no taking up space on your hard drive! Katerina

lol...the last I checked I had just over 22,000 emails from this year.  Unlike some, I never delete emails.  If I ever need them I will always know where to find them.  I use RackSpace.com.

I used to use Outlook for years, but I made the switch to Gmail about two years ago and I have never regretted this decision.

Paula,

That amazing, you must be a super star agent with that many emails to delete.  Your probably way to busy, that is not always a bad thing.

Aaaah don't you love technology.  I can't imagine being on the pc 3 hours deleting.  I tend to delete my emails on a daily basis and archive the rest.

Outlook is a Sherman Tank. It does well in a heavy duty corporate environment with plenty of support.

I even run an exchange server for those who insist on it.

I use Gmail.

It does labels, filters spam better than anything else hands down. It does everything. It never dies or chokes up when I do a mass/batch action.
