Big sister and little sister

This picture was loaned to me by my friend Ludean.

It brings back old memories.  Let's count a few.

Note the house foundation.  I remember as a kid crawling under those houses with piers but no underpinning.  It was cool and fun.  Now it gives me the shivers to think of going under there with all the spiders and other things that might be there.

Note the bobbie sox with the dress shoes.  I can't tell whether the shoes were high heels or not but the toe was definitely open and the strap showed fashion flair.

The hem length was a definite each year.  If the style changed the mother had to work on the hem.  Let it out or take it up.  Fashion absolutely dictated year after year what the length would be.  During war years the skirts were shorter, possibly to save money on material??

The big sister has something in her hands and I'm betting it was a Bible and they were on their way to church.  You dressed up to go to church.

The sisters are Ludean and Bobbie.  Bobbie looks especially proud  to be with her big sister.  And I'd be willing to bet that big sister teased and tormented little Bobbie but would murder anyone else who tried to mistreat her in any way!!  That is based on my  relationship with my own sister.

She was horrible to me but would beat up anyone else who treated me badly!! Come to think of it I'll bet my big sister made me go under that spidery house!!

Thanks for the picture, Ludean...................................................

Mrs Barbara,

That is a very quaint and interesting older photo.

Barbara, I have two little sisters, and to this day, every so often, one of them will remind me of a long-forgotten (by me, at least) incident!

I rode on the back of my brother's bike to church in a frilly dress and my cowboy boots. My mom would hide the boots but says I always found them before I left.

Other times I walked home from church with my two big sisters and brother who enjoyed the thrill of ringing doorbells and running away. I could not keep up with them. I should have traded in my cowboy boots for track shoes.

I love the picture, too, with all your fashion comments, Barbara.  You missed the big bow under the blouse collar.  She could be singing in the children's choir....Bob's children's choir at lst Methodist, Searcy wore what was called a surplus.....then a big black bow, I THINK.  Continuing to think, it may just be my imagination.   I finally found my Hawkins Clinic Hospital picture (taking from across the street) but I'm thinking we've put that one to rest, for now anyway?

Nutsy, thank you for noticing our picture.  If you weren't already so famous, I'd have to put you on my blog!

Patricia, do they accuse you of having picked on them unmercifully?

Kate, I think every kid at some time loves cowboy boots.  Sometimes with little girls it was the majorette type boots but boots anyhow!  Me?  I never had any boots in my childhood.  I was lucky to have shoes.

Anita, I wondered about the bow.  Thanks for analyzing it.  I want the picture.  I want to do another one with the pictures Bob sent.

The bow was my mother's or my grandmother's idea of  me dressing up to go to church.  You always wore the best you had to church.  The heels of the shoes wouldn't have been high, as I didn't wear high heels as a teen.  I may have been 11 or 12 in this picture.  Bobbie was about 5, I think.
