Wordless Wednesday - Brentsville Union Church Circa 1874

From the time it was completed in 1874 until today the Brentsville Union Church was available for worship services by all local religious groups. The church is part of the 28 acre Brentsville Courthouse Historic Centre. The church, 1822 courthouse, 1822 jail and 1922 one room schoolhouse are now owned and maintained by Prince William County.

Architectural lines in rural America during the 18th and 19th century were clean, symmetrical and functional. Their simplicity was the source of their beauty.

Karen, we have a little church that looks almost identical to this one. It was moved to a new location about 12 years ago and we watched. It is now part of a Methodist Church on Highway 17 here on Fleming Island.

Virginia and I love these fine old churches - go to Christ Chuirch Alexandiria whiich is about 230 yrs,. old and were marriled in a church in southern Maryland that was bulit in the early 1700's.  Seems we can't get away from them!
