What defines a Family Friendly Library?

These standards include, but are not limited to:

  • The utilization of Internet filters in compliance with the Children's Internet Protection Act
  • Allowing parents to limit their minor child's borrowing privileges
  • Providing a ‘parents' advisory section' for materials parents may wish to pre-screen for their children
  • Material collection and placement policies reflect local community decency standards
  • Age-appropriateness based on both reading level and controversial content determine material placement within the library

Family Friendly Libraries is a organization based in Fairfax County, Virginia created in 1992. The establishment was formed to combat the growing problem of Internet pornography and age-inappropriate materials in school and public libraries. For more info visit www.fflibraries.org
