Indian Statue In Portage Lakes Ohio

Indian Statue

This Indian Statue is in a park along Rt. 93 in Portage Lakes, Ohio.

It tells the story of how the Indians had to portage their canoes

along the canals and the lakes in Portage Lakes and ultimately

how the Portage Lakes was named by the Indians who lived here.

It is interesting to read the plaque that accompanies the statue

and learn more about our historic area along the Ohio Canals

in Ohio. If you have time someday stop to visit the Indian!

What a great Indian Statue Caren! I am from Ohio but never knew the story of how the Portage Lakes were named.  If I ever make it to Akron, visiting this site would definitely be worth seeing.

Caren: NICE. I so enjoy reading about the people that "made" an area/town.

Lori-Thank you! It is bigger than life and a great addition to our history of our area! The trees are losing leaves rapidly and I stopped in time to catch this one!

Kat-We have a really rich history in the Portage Lakes area!

Sandy-I love that statue too, it tells the history of my beloved Portage Lakes!

Mary-I thought this was a good time of year to capture the Indian statue! I go by that statue evey day because it is just 50 feet from the main highway in my area!

Paddy-We have great stories to tell of all of our local areas and it is fun to share them!

Oooh, I love that. I'm being virtually transported back in time carrying my own canoe in front of an awesome tree like that in the Fall.
