Food Box Programs:

 Metro Church of Christ

There will be a Holiday Food Box Hotline # (not yet available). Line will open for Thanksgiving food box requests on November 1, 2009. Line will close when they have reached their 100-box limit. All messages left on the voice mail prior to those official opening dates may be erased. The line is for messages only. People must not call the church's phone number to request a box. Gift and Toy Programs with Food Box included:

 

Food boxes and toys for children will be provided for families in need. Intake will be done on three days in November: November 11th from 9am-5pm, November 12th from 2-7pm, and November 14th from 10am-2pm, at 5325 N. Williams Street, Portland. Must bring proof of address and ID for each person in the household. Must reside in one of the following zip codes: 97203, 97209 97210, 97211, 97212, 97213, 97217, 97218, 97220, 97227, 97231. When people sign up, they will be given information on when to return to pick up. Salvation Army participates in a clearinghouse database to prevent duplication of services by different agencies for the same family

ADOPT-A-FAMILY - Families should inquire at child's school - schools will be handling signup of families for this program (a sponsor "adopts" a family and provides food and gifts - often includes clothing)

ANGEL TREE - There will be tags on a tree with child's gender and age - sponsors will provide gifts to children. Information will be available at Family Services at 503-239-1264 by November 1st.

St. Andrews Community Center:

 

Will have both a food box program and an Adopt-A-Family program. Both programs are offered for families who have children in the home. Call 971-244-0339 now - intake is done over the phone; no need to come in. Parish boundaries are MLK Boulevard to NE 25th, Interstate 5 out to 25th (East/West boundaries), Killingsworth to Shaver (North/South) and Ainsworth to Mason (East of MLK), but they will be extending these boundaries a little to serve more people at Christmas.

SnowCap

 

SnowCap will be distributing 500 food boxes and toys to families living within their service area (East Multnomah County, east of 82nd). Beginning on November 9th, people should come into SnowCap to fill out an application. Bring proof of residence. SnowCap is located behind Rockwood United Methodist Church at 17805 SE Stark. Applications will be accepted until 500 applications have been filled. Applicants will receive details about pickup. Applications will be put through the

Toy Programs: 

Community Cycling Center 

Each December the Community Cycling Center provides 500 children with their first bicycles, new helmets, and basic safety education. The Drive is designed to benefit children ages 3-8 from low-income families. Children must be referred through a school, church or social service agency beginning on October 19, 2009. Details will be provided at that time. If agency is not already a partner, they may apply on the Center's website.

 Compassion In Action (CIACC)

 Compassion in Action will run October 26th to December 4th. CIACC is a volunteer-run organization that matches people in need with individuals, service organization, and companies who wish to help by providing families with a food box for the family and gifts for ages up to 18 years, depending on donors. Limited to families residing within Clackamas County.

People should contact their case worker or participating local social service organization. There is an application to fill out, which is available in County Social Services, Mental Health, Community Health, and Housing offices, as well as State Dept of Human Services. Application is also available online at www.ciacc.org. People or organizations wishing to donate may also call 503-632-0562.

Salvation Army - Tualatin Valley Citadel 

Will be sponsoring 1,500 families with children ages 0-12. Families can register at the Salvation Army on November 13th, 14th, and 21st.

Location: 351 SE Oak Street, in Hillsboro. Must bring the following documents: for each adult in household, either photo ID or proof of address; for each child in household, one of the following - birth certificate, school registration, report card, or social security card. St. Vincent de Paul Brush Prairie

will be distributing approximately 100 food boxes. People needing a food box should call 360-573-7199. Signups begin on October 19 until Oct. 30 for people living in their service area, limited to north of 58thStreet and east of Interstate 5 to the county line. After Nov. 1, signups are open to anyone in need by telephone only until the list is full. Distribution will be Tuesday, November 24th from 9:30am to 12:30pm, at St. John the Evangelist Catholic Church, 8701 NE 119th St., Vancouver ( Brush Prairie). No deliveries.

Columbia River CSO/DSHS

is processing applications for same-day benefits (food, cash, medical) at their Customer Service Center - phone number is 877-980-9180. Vancouver office is located at 5411 E Mill Plain Blvd, Building 1. Apply between 8am-3pm, Monday-Friday.

Share Vancouver

will be distributing food boxes to all of the families in their ASPIRE program, as well as 650 food boxes to families not served elsewhere who have children in the Children's Hunger Initiative "Backpack Program". These will not be complete Thanksgiving dinners, but will be supplements to the food that is in the regular backpack. There are an additional 125 food boxes available for Clark County residents in need - call (360)859-3631 to apply, beginning on Monday, October 12th at 8:30am.

 Clark Public Utilities

Children's Home Society

will have a Giving Tree for their own clients. Taking names through October and will be distributing gifts to clients at their annual party.

Columbia River Mental Health

will have a Giving Tree at the Westfields' Shopping Town Mall for their clients. They are coordinating with NAMI to have a seasonal holiday party at the Leupke Center, with gifts, dinner, and entertainment. Zumie's will be donating many jackets and cold weather clothing for very low income families, and Kaiser Permanente has volunteered to sort them. If any are left after their own client distribution they will be given to SHARE to distribute.

St. Vincent de Paul Brush Prairie

will be doing a giving tree for individual gifts, in partnership with SHARE outreach. The tags for the tree will be at St. John the Evangelist Church, 8701 NE 119th St., Vancouver, the 1st two weeks of December. Signups for Christmas will not be taken at the church or at St. Vincent DePaul. Please see Share House Volunteer Services to sign up for Christmas.

Neighbors Helping Neighbors

Share Vancouver

will be distributing food boxes to all of the families in their ASPIRE program. Any remaining boxes will be available for Clark County residents in need - call (360)859-3631 to apply. There will be a Christmas party open to all at on Thursday, December 17th at the Fraternal Order of rthe Eagles, 107 E. 7th St., with a meal, entertainment, and some gifts for children.

DSHS/Division of Children and Family Services

encourages foster families, relative care providers, social workers and case workers to submit Holiday Wish Lists for children ages 0-18 in out-of-home care (any open case meeting that description). Community organizations, private donors, and high school students are given the lists to fill the needs of the children.

DCFS also refers clients to Shop with a Cop - Vancouver Police Dept. In this program, officers take children or families to a retail location nearby to purchase gifts for the family.

Salvation Army Vancouver

North County Community Food Bank

will be distributing over 400 Christmas food boxes and presents for children up to 18 years of age. Residents of North Clark County - zip codes 98601, 98604, 98606, 98622, 98675. Will begin taking information on October 12th. Come into North County Community Food Bank at 17 NE Third Avenue in Battle Ground and fill out an application - income requirements apply. Pick up will be at Battle Ground Community Center at 912 E. Main Street on Dec 19th.

Salvation Army - Vancouver

has distributed 300 Giving Tree applications and will be filling 250 applications for Adopt-A-Family. Applications will be taken for Adopt-A-Family at the DSHS- CSO office at 5411 E. Mill Plain Blvd. on October 20th, 21st, and 22nd.

Annual Community Thanksgiving dinner - McMinnville Senior Citizen's Center, Thursday, November 26th from noon-1:30pm. Free and open to any Yamhill County resident. They offer home delivery to handicapped and shut-ins by the Mac Jaycees.
