The Realtor Holiday

I have heard it said that the "Realtor Holiday" is Halloween to Super Bowl.  It is really easy to start considering the coming holidays as a reason not to keep coming to the office, attending classes, phoning past clients, prospecting for new clients.  After Halloween, Thanksgiving is near (actually, more than 3 weeks).  Thanksgiving on Thursday makes working on Friday and/or Saturday seem unnecessary.  Then, after Thanksgiving the month until Christmas or Hanukkah is full of shopping and parties and, of course, no one wants to buy or sell real estate in December, right?

No--not right!  There is real estate to be bought and sold during November and December.   Our family made an offer one year on a house the day before Thanksgiving and closed on December 23.  And we weren't even aware that we were ready to move!  Right house, right neighborhood, right price, working agent, holding an open house in November. Quick sale and happy clients.

So, for all you agents who want to start your 2010 off with transactions, now is the time to keep working, not to stop.  Limit the time you are "off" during the slower months.  For one thing, you will have less competition since many of your peers are taking the time off.  For another, you will keep up the good habit of showing up to work and not have to go through the painful re-entry, mid-January.  Resist the temptation to think that you have a 2 1/2 month holiday and keep working on your Real Estate business.  You'll see the results sooner than you might expect.

Some places - such as the Phoenix-Scottsdale Metro area begin to pick up as much of the rest of the country grows colder and our 80 to 90 degree temps look better and better. (of course if you house hunt out here in the summer when it's 105 to 112, you REALLY want to buy)

We look forward to the Holidays, particularly in the second-home market. The metro area grows by approximately 250,000 as "snow birds" flock to our mild winters.

You're right....this is no time to relax, particularly in warm climate markets.

With the colder weather, I am finding that I need extra motivation to go outside to run, but I know if I do not then I will be less likely to start up again when the warmer days return.  The same is true with real estate, it is what I do; it is my life and my lifestyle; I cannot just stop, for it may be too hard to start up again.
