Christmas Lights in Livermore

House Decorated with Christmas LightsAs a child, one holiday tradition our family had was taking a drive through the city on Christmas Eve to see all of the noteworthy light displays. With all of the various commercial light options out there, not to mention the 3D characters and props, outstanding Christmas light decorations are cropping up all over town.

The standard to beat in Livermore, California has to be Deacon Dave’s, started back in 1982. Each year, a full theme engulfs the house, the yard and lights up the neighborhood. Visitors form a line encircling the block, and it is well worth the wait. More than 300,000 lights were in last year’s display! The decorations are limited to outdoors – there are 42 Christmas trees inside the home, many visible to visitors as they wind their way through the fabulous scenery.

And of course, front and center in the Deacon’s home is the oversized Nativity Scene, reminding us of the reason for the season. Christmas display opened, Fri Dec 4, 2009 and will be open every night at 6 pm, so stop by 352 Hillcrest Avenue in Livermore, CA and be dazzled!

Many other households pull out the stops with amazing holiday light decorations. This special website, Lights of the Valley, provides a great selection of homes for your Christmas Light Tour of Livermore. Happy Holidays!

Karen, great idea for a localism post.  I love going out in the evening to look at Christmas lights.

It is really something to see.  Each of my kids looks forward to our annual visit.  And as they've gotten older, they bring their girlfriends too.  This year, my son will bring his new wife.  I can't wait till our first grandchild is old enough to go!

Karen,

WOW! That is so awesome that your son and new wife will be going this year with you.  I too went every year when I was growing up with my parents.  It was so much fun...just like you said no matter how long you waited it was worth it.

Thanks for the link to look at all the places in your town that are decorated so beautifully.  The last picture on your list is on Candy Ct...when I was going up we always went down Candy Cane Lane.  It brought back memories!  Thanks and thanks for reminding us The Reason for the Season!

Linda,

You know what's funny?  When we were first coming to live in Livermore, we almost put an offer on Candy Ct, before finding the home we're currently in.  A Merry Christmas to you and your family.
