Holiday Gifts for Business Associates--I Could Sure Use Some Good Ideas

I know ActiveRain is not Twitter. So, throwing out a question like this may, or may not, eleict some suggestions from AR Nation. My problem is that the Holidays really begin next Monday, and I do not have a clue as to what to do for close business associates in the real estate profession with whom I have worked during this extremely difficult year.

In the past, I have give gift certificates to restaurants, scarves for the women and ties for the men, and an array of other items designed to tell people that it has been rewarding working with them throughout the year.

This year I am conssidering making donations to the local food bank in recognition of the person involved. There are a lot of hungry people in Massachusetts whom this would benefit. Maybe I can locate a foreclosure relief organization that could be similarly benefitted.

If any of you have thoughts, please comment. The recession is not nearly over. Some of us have survived these tough times, but just barely. It is a time for reflection, and I would like to do something meaningful.

Would it be too late for you to organize with your associates' to "adopt a family?"  Or you can adopt one yourself and give gifts in each of your associates names to the family members.  You can contact your local churches for an organization that coordinates this.  The city I live in (Carlsbad, CA) has an organization that works with all the local churches to match up parishioners with families in need to make sure they have a proper Christmas meal and gifts for the kids.  I've done this in past years with my colleagues (versus each of us buying gifts for each other) and it has added so much to our holiday spirit.

Most people we know are not giving anything this year at all --

but your idea of just giving to a food bank is a great one-- donate to the food bank and send a card to the associates and let them know.  All the best.

I like your food for the Food Bank idea...  I would also challenge your client base to join you in the fight for hunger and ask them to send their donations to ___________ (fill in the blank).

One thing I used to do for my clients is offer free gift wrapping.  They could bring by my office or house any amount of gifts and I would wrap them free.  Most did their own...but they appreciated and remembered me offering.

Another year, I hired out 5 good babysitters and offered my clients a free nite of babysitting.  The babysitters got together and planned an entire evening of crafts, cupcake decorating, and a Christmas movie that (at the time) I projected on the wall of my home.  I had each of the parents send a sleeping bag with their child so that they could watch the movie laying on the floor in their sleeping bag.

Both the gift wrapping and babysitting can be easily hired out while you supervise.

Merry Christmas!
