Firetruck with the American FlagYesterday, Palmetto celebrated the 4th of July fun style!  I had a lot of fun there.  It was fun to watch the kids play on the rides, listen to the music and sit on the pier watching the sun set as all the boats came into the Marina to watch the fireworks from their boats.  And of course the fireworks topped it all off.  It was an all around fun day!

There was something there for everyone to do.

  • Live bands playing throughout the day
  • Tons of food, beer & beverages
  • Gifts & crafts
  • Small car show
  • Games and rides for the kids including a HUGE water-slide, a fun house and several other carnival rides
  • Pony rides
  • A circus that included a couple of comedians, a clown, a guy that walked the wheel while it was spinning and a 17 year old girl riding a motorcycle in a steal cage around a volunteer that stood in the middle
  • And of course the fireworks

They had one of the local firetrucks there that they tied the American Flag to and then extended the ladder on the fireRed, White & Blue from head to toetruck all the way up so it was hoisted high in the air.

It seemed like a large amount of the people that came were dressed in some sort of red, white & blue fashion.  People with just a red shirt on, or a patriotic hat and even people fully decked out from head to toe in red white & blue.  Lots of people brought their dogs with them and dressed them up too.

The spirit of the festivities was great.  The kids seemed to love the water-slide and all the rides.  Everyone seemed to have a great time.

As the day grew later, more and more people were showing up to watch the fireworks.  The pier was packed full of people waiting to see them.  And since I had never been there, I thought I was going to be in a good spot.  I was, but not for taking pictures.  I really wished I could of gotten some better photos, but the street lights seemed to be in the way.  Oh well, next year I'll know where to sit at.

All the ooooh's and ahhhh's and wow's were fun to hear and who doesn't like watching fireworks?  So I might not of got the greatest pictures, but it was still worth it!

If you watch this first video, there is a video clip I caught of the 17 year old girl riding a motorcycle in the steal cage around that guy that volunteered at the very end!

Sorry my fireworks photos didn't come out the greatest.  Maybe next year in a different location!

Becky~

My Grandfather had groves in Palmetto...acres and acres set aside for grapefruit, tangelos, king orange, navel oranges, tangerines...I still remember the scent of citrus in the air. It was quite an experience for me to see your Fourth of July photos and video! I enjoyed this in a special way. THX!

Thanks Brad.  Those 2 slide shows I did above were free.  You can create them and upload so many photos a month (100mb I think) for free.  Otherwise it's $40 a year to create an unlimited amount I believe and they give you some other choices for layouts.  I just stuck with the free version for now.

With the free version, they have that advertising link at the bottom, and I don't think it's there on the paid version.

I'm still trying to decide if I really like it or not.  I have been playing around with some others too, but haven't decided which one to stick with yet.
