Now, the world is coming together to elect the new 7 Wonders of the Modern World.  The New 7 Wonders Foundation is starting a campaign that will document, maintain, restore, and reconstruct world heritage under it motto: “Our Heritage Is Our Future.”

In a never attempted before move, N7W is letting the people of the world vote on what will become the new 7 Wonders of the World.  Swiss adventurer Bernard Weber started this campaign in 2001 to protect humankind’s heritage across the globe.  In 2005, the N7W narrowed down the list of candidates to 21 from 77.  On January 1, 2006, the official list of the 21 candidates was announced in Zurich.

From then until July 7, 2007 (07/07/07), the people of the world have the opportunity to vote on their top 7 Wonders.

Now for the list of 21 candidates:

Don't let my vote sway yours.  But here is how I voted: Colosseum, Easter Island, Great Wall, Pyramids of Giza (grandfathered in), Stonehedge, Neuschwanstein, Petra, and the Acropolis.
Now hurry up and get over there.... you only have 1 day left to vote.  See if your wonders make the list on 7.7.07.  Please feel free to share your votes bleow.  Let's see if AR can predict what the world wants. :)

Jason - we actually watched something on the Discovery Channel about the Colosseum the other night.  It's amazing that they did it for starters...it's still up...and how much time and how many men it would take TODAY to rebuild it!!  THAT is AMAZING!!

I started checking out your selections and the first one I went on was the "Christ Redeemer"  In your comments you advise that if I vote in bold offsetting colors that I should "  In short - vote for Christ Redeemer, because it stands for - Welcoming & Openness!"

Well, I think this is a little narrow minded and I can assure you that was not the meaning the original artist or city fathers had when it was erected.  But, if that makes you feel better, then I guess that is what is important.

As for me and my house, we shall serve the Lord...

Susie,

I just fixed the poll.  Please feel free to vote for the Colosseum along with 6 other "wonders".  Also, I think I caught the same show.

John,

I see that you went to their site based on the slogan that they chose for Christ Redeemer.  I hope that you take the time to cast your vote for the 7 Wonders of the Modern World.  Also, after you vote there, please use the poll in the post to share.

The N7W site allows for you to post your own slogan for each wonder.  If you go back to their site, you will be able to see what others have written.  (And I am not the one that chose "Welcoming & Openness"  That was chosen by N7W.)

Personally I think they should just leave them alone.  If they change, does that mean the current 7 wonders are no longer wonders?

Terry,

No, the 7 Wonders of the Ancient World will still be the original ones (it is just that all but the pyramids of Gizza have been destroyed).  These new wonders will be protected to be enjoyed and marveled by many generations to come.

It's a shame that 6 of the 7 are gone - but, as you said, they will always be the original ones.

As far as voting for the 'next 7', it's going to take some time, but it better be less then 24 hours!

I can't believe that I hadn't heard more about this.....

I always thought the Great Wall was already one of the 7?  Well, like you said I guess it depends on who you ask.  Interesting poll.

Jason, you seem to have left my name off of your list.  I figured Marc would have pointed it out.  Fair and balanced polling on Active Rain.

What is a pitaya (graphic)?

I put my .02 in via the poll.  I am surprised how easy it was to pick.

Chris-

I think you need to see a professional about this 'low self-esteme' problem that keeps cropping up!

(Don't worry - you were a write-in.)
